Blog Tour: "Freefall" by Susan Rae (Interview/Review/Giveaway)

Photobucket

Welcome to our Blog Tour stop on "Freefall" by Susan Rae. Brought to you by Reading Addiction Book Tours. Here you can read a interview with the author, the book's synopsis, my review on "Freefall", the author's bio, and a chance to win a copy of "Freefall".

1.  Tell us a little bit about yourself that readers may not know about you.
When I’m not writing, I love to golf.  There’s nothing like getting outside away from the computer and smacking a golf ball around the course when you are trying to get your frustrations out over a stubborn plot point!

2.  Do you have any writing traditions when writing a book?  (Do you have to listen to music, etc.)
Actually, no; I find music distracting when I write.  However, I do like to listen to a few good love songs before I write to get in the mood.  My only real tradition is to sit my butt down in the chair and just do it! (Write, that is!)

3.  Tell us about Freefall. How did you come up with that (story, angle, idea)?
Freefall was inspired by my husband.  It is the book I always wanted to write.  Freefall takes place in Wisconsin, at a small airport in Sylvan Lake (fictitious) in the Kettle Moraine Forest and in Door County.  My husband used to be part owner in a small aircraft repair shop.  I can still recall “that pungent mix of fuel oil and cleaning solvent, with just a hint of airplane fuel thrown in” as I describe it in the book.  Of course, the setting was just the creative take off point for the novel; the idea for the suspense plot line came from a newspaper article.

4.  What's your favorite part of the book?
Without giving it away, that would have to be the ending when Kate must overcome her fears to save the day...and her new love, Everett.  Of course, the love scenes are pretty cool (or, I should say hot!), too!

5.  What's your inspiration or who is?
People inspire me—mainly the strength they find to deal with the difficulties of life and love.  I write romantic suspense because it allows me to create seemingly everyday characters—characters with flaws and insecurities—who grow into amazing heroes and heroines.  As they push through adversity, facing life and death situations, not only do they find the strength to survive, but they help others survive, too—and find love along the way.

6. What current project(s) are you working on next?
I am working on ICE Blue and TRUE Blue, the next two books in the DeLuca Family Series which began with my award winning novel, Heartbeats.  In ICE Blue, Chicago Paramedic Angela DeLuca finds herself falling for ICE agent Troy Deavers as she tries to protect a pregnant immigrant woman from her handlers.  ICE Blue is due out in the beginning of 2013.

Thanks for the opportunity to tell your readers a little about myself and my work.  For more, please visit me at www.susanrae.com.  And Happy Reading!

Synopsis:

Freak accident, or attempted murder? Kate needs answers to her brother’s plane crash, but can she trust undercover DEA agent “Spike” Larsen to deliver them?
Kate Reynolds’s quest to unravel the mystery of her brother’s plane crash throws her into
the turbulent wake of suave pilot/mechanic Everett Larsen. His gray gaze ignites in her a passion as powerful as a jet stream, but it also sparks a memory—one she can’t quite reel in. A bitter divorce has taught her to trust no man, so how can she trust Larsen? Drawn by a cryptic message Keith left on his answering machine, Everett “Spike” Larsen flies to Milwaukee for answers, but he is unprepared for the torrent of emotion he feels
when he sees Kate—after his wife’s death, he thought himself no longer capable of such emotion. He is afraid to give into his feelings for Kate—afraid to love again. But when Kate insists on helping out at her brother’s aircraft repair shop and gets too close to the
truth, he is even more afraid to lose her.

My Review:
Kate Reynolds heads to Wisconsin to find out what happened to her brother and why his plane crashed.  Her brother is now in a coma at the hospital and she has a feeling that someone may have sabotaged his plane and tried to murder him.  She wants to find out who would want to murder her brother and in the mean time, she decides to help out at his business, Aeromac.  When she gets to town though, she keeps bumping into a man that she swears she's seen before, but the man keeps dodging her questions.
Everett Lawson is in Milwaukee to find out what happened to Kate's brother as well.  He wants to know why a good pilot like Keith is in a coma.  Once he runs into Kate though, he's supposed to be keeping his emotions at bay with her...but for some reason, ever since he first saw her, he has been attracted to her (but is the first bump he has with her...or his he keeping a secret).
Once Kate and Everett start unraveling the truth, Kate starts questioning things that she never thought possible.  In the end though, she realizes she'll overcome those fears and worries, once she starts trusting people and finding out the truth, herself.
My thoughts on "Freefall" were  at first it was a rough start to get into the book, but once the mystery started unraveling, I had a hard time putting down my iPad.  I really enjoyed the mystery and suspense of the story and what actually happened.  What amazed me the most was how Kate got herself into some sticky situations, but she always managed to get out of them.  (especially one certain scene, that I was amazed about)
I loved how Susan Rae had Kate get over her fears at the end of the book and also loved the part in the hospital between Kate and her brother.  (won't give that away because I do not want to spoil it for anyone)
This book had me crying, angry, and happy at times.  I was an emotional wreck in certain parts of the book, but that's because I'm a big sap when it comes to happy endings and of course parts that just make me cry no matter what.
I recommend this book to mystery and suspense readers out there.  You'll definitely enjoy unraveling the mystery with the characters, just like I did.
This was a very interesting story...and it was my first story that involved airplanes.
May I just say...I have a fear of small airplanes, but maybe I can get over my fears eventually.  (Notice eventually)

I write, basically, because I just can’t help myself.
I can't resist the challenge of taking the intriguing characters and storylines that pop into my head and fleshing them out into compelling manuscripts. Romantic suspense is a natural to me, because it allows me to combine my love of a good mystery with a passionate love story. It also lets me express my appreciation for the outdoors in the settings which I recreate on the page.
My first novel, heartbeats, is a story of romance and danger set against the background of busy Chicago and the quiet, rural cornfields of northern Illinois. heartbeats has garnered
numerous awards, including RWA Golden Heart Finalist for Best Romantic Suspense Novel and Best First Book by First Coast Romance Writers.
In freefall, my second novel, danger and suspense are juxtaposed against the tranquil valley of Sylvan Lake (fictitious) in the Kettle Moraine Forest and the sun-dappled waters ofDoor County, Wisconsin.
When I’m not sketching characters or working out plot problems, you might find me
on the golf course working on my handicap. I also enjoy traveling around the country seeking
out new settings for my novels with my husband and my empty nest puppies, Ginger and
Nikute.

Now here's your chance to win a ebook copy of "Freefall"

Good Luck to everyone!  =)
