Delilah Marvelle Blog Tour Interview/Giveaway & Rumor Series Spotlight
Today we have the lovely Delilah Marvelle with us. Make sure you read it all so you can get info on her contest she has going on. Now enjoy!!!
Delilah Marvelle spent her youth studying various languages,
reading voraciously and playing the pianoforte. She confesses that here ends
the extent of her gentle breeding. She was a naughty child who was forever
torturing her parents with countless adventures that they did not deem
respectable. Confined to her room on many occasions due to these misadventures,
she discovered the quill and its amazing power. Soon, to the dismay of her
parents, she rather enjoyed being confined to her room and finished writing her
first historical romance (which was a heart-stopping 800 pages long…) at the
age of fourteen. She is a two time Golden Heart finalist and the winner of The
Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Sensual HIstorical Romance of the Year.
You can visit her at her website at www.DelilahMarvelle.com or her blog, which
explores the naughtier side of history, at www.DelilahMarvelle.blogspot.com.
RUMOR series - PREQUEL

Love can open your eyes...
Lady Augustine Jane Ascott longs for a man who will do more than
offer on her hand in marriage. She wants a husband she can trust, someone
who will shield her from the darkness of the world. Her heart was broken
when her younger brother was kidnapped years earlier, and she still carries the
pain of his loss.
When the handsome Duke of Wentworth makes his feelings for her
known, Augustine's past demons warn her away. Besides, every woman in
London knows he's devoted to the memory of his late wife. But
is it possible he cares for her after all -- and that their love can bring them
the peace they both crave?
READER PLEASE NOTE:
Bonus Chapters from FOREVER MINE that were not included in this
Prequel Novella are available for free download. Click HERE to download them. These two bonus chapters are the
untold story of what happened to Nathaniel from Augustine's point of
view. While the publisher opted not to include the two chapters in
FOREVER MINE, due to its dark nature, I feel this story and the
entire series is incomplete without them. These two chapters, in my
opinion, are critical in understanding Nathaniel's story whom the entire
series is based on.

fiery-haired beauty who's taken it upon herself to rescue him, suddenly his
memory is the last thing on his mind.
Georgia Milton, the young head of New York's notorious Forty
Thieves, feels responsible for the man who was trying to save her reticule
from a thief. But she's not prepared for the fierce passion he ignites
within her. When his memory begins to return, her whole world is
threatened, and Roderick must choose between the life he forgot and the life he
never knew existed...

Rumor has it we are closer
to the truth...
Two different classes, One common desire...
Bernadette Marie Burton may be the richest widow in England, but
like her dreams of finding true passion, her reputation is deteriorating.
Cruel gossip, loneliness and hoards of opportunistic suitors have her believing
Society couldn't be more vile....or dangerous. So when an attacker
threatens her life, she finds safety in the most unseemly of places: the arms
of a mysterious, Irish-American gang leader.
His fortune stolen, young Matthew Joseph Milton is done
playing the respectable gentleman. In the slums of New York, only
ruffians thrive. But from the moment he arrives in London and encounters
the volumptious Lady Bernadette, he can't help but wonder about the finer
pleasures he's missing. Or just how much he's willing to risk -- not only
to bed her, but to prove his worth...
Hi Delilah, Welcome to Book Lovin’ Mamas!
Thank you so much for having me!
Can you tell us something interesting about yourself that we
can’t learn on the internet (can be anything)?
I would say the most interesting
thing about myself that people can’t learn about me on the internet would be
that I once had a “ghostly” encounter when my mom passed on. To this day I can’t tell you if I dreamed it
or if I really had been visited by my mom as it was while I was falling
asleep. All I can say is that I will
cherish knowing I have one last memory of her before her passing. Be it real or a dream.
What or who inspired you to become a writer?
Life inspired me to become a
writer. Every experience finds its way
into my books. Writing, to me, is what
I call free therapy, lol. I’m able to let every emotion and thought go
while piecing together a much bigger story.
People don’t realize just how personal writing a book is. There are large slivers of who I am and what
I have lived through woven into each and every book. An example of that is my book, Prelude to a
Scandal. There is a scene in which the
heroine, Justine, witnesses the assault of her friend. It was traumatic to some readers to read it
and some even wrote to me asking me WHY I felt the need to write it. Writing that scene was me letting go of
seeing my own husband almost murdered.
That emotion has to go somewhere.
They go into my books. I’ve been
doing it since I was eight years old.
What does a typical writing day look like for you?
I don’t write
during the summers. Or at least, I try
not to, as I enjoy spending the summers just hanging out with my kids. During the schoolyear, my typical writing
schedule is to get the kids out the door and start writing at 7:15 a.m. I can’t write whenever there are people in
the house. It may sound strange, but I
feel like their energy is bleeding into my ability to focus. When writing about history, one has to
immerse themselves in a different world and I find it’s hard to do that when
you’re surrounded by people who remind you your world is fake, fake, fake,
lol. So I basically write from 7:15 a.m.
to 4 p.m. I break for lunch, but it’s
usually less than 10 minuts and I go back to work. When I’m on deadline, I’ll write as much as
12 hours in a day. But I usually try to
keep it to the 7:15 a.m.-4 p.m. schedule.
It allows me to unwind and do stuff with my family in between the
madness of writing.
Do you have any traditions when you start or finish a book?
When starting a book, I delve
into a lot of research books to get me into the mindset of the 1820’s and
1830’s. Other than that, no, no
traditions. Finishing a book results in me
getting lots of sleep, though, lol.
I know research is a big part of writing, especially with
Historical Romance. Could you give us a little peek at your research process
for a new book or series?
My research is actually three
fold. I own A LOT of research books
which are out of print. It’s a passion
of mine to collect research books from estate sales and overseas and I keep
them all organized by subject in my personal library. There are certain books I go back to again
and again and others that are waiting for attention but I know will one day find
its use. Between my own books, I also
troll the internet. In particular, I
hunt for books from the era I’m writing in.
Unlike a contemporary author, who can go to a certain location and touch
the location they are writing about, I “touch” history by reading books from
the era itself. Diaries, newspapers,
fictional books, anything that will give me a better understanding of an era
that gets muddied by our own modern perceptions. I also travel to the locations I write
about. I don’t always get a chance to,
but being able to, changes not only my writing but the book itself. It adds a depth I could only have infused by
breathing in real history. I usually
know the aspect of history I need to research while diving into a book and try
to have that research all plotted out and laid out, so all I have to do is
write the book and glance at all my notes I can use to weave into the
book. I’m one of those writers that
can’t place a big X into a manuscript when it’s research related and come back
to it later, because I feel like I’m missing a much bigger aspect of the
story. So I have to have my research
done first as I write or I will altogether stop writing and finish researching
if I come across something I don’t know.
It drives me crazy not to know, lol.
Your new book Forever A Lady is book two in your Rumors
series. Could you tell us a little bit about the series and this new addition
to it?
I’ve *always*
wanted to write a series centering around historical New York City. There’s just something nostalgic about
looking at my own country’s history and digging into it, as opposed to just
British history.
Although I love
so many historical New York movies like Annie, Cinderella Man and Newsies, I
took the storyline from my own childhood.
I grew up in a pretty rough neighborhood and the story of not being
defined by your social class but by who you are appealed to me. When I came across a newspaper that told the
story about a missing boy who re-appeared 30 years later as an adult, back into
his family’s life, to me, I knew I had to center a series around it. It called out to me and I wanted to write a
historical version of it. My own brother
disappeared from my life when I was a young girl and I never had a chance to
get to know him and always felt a part of me was missing as a result of
it. That lent to the prequel of the
Rumor series, FOREVER MINE. The whole
series evolves around the disappearance of a 10 year old aristocratic boy. While visiting New York City with his family,
he disappears and is never seen again…until thirty years later with a story
that shocks anyone who meets him. Every
book in the series is a puzzle piece.
They can be read alone, but with each book they read, they get a much
bigger part of the story that is leading them to the arc of the entire series.
FOREVER A LADY is the flip side of the story people didn't get to see in Book 1,
FOREVER AND A DAY. We get to see the Forty Thieves (a gang mentioned in book 1)
in action in the bowels of the Five Points and how they came to be in
existence, given the story is about its leader, Matthew Milton. Without any doubt, Matthew is what I call a
gruff romantic. He loses everything (including the sight in one eye) but
believes he still deserves everything, including a woman so high above his
social circle, he can't reach the ladder. You think that stops him? Hell
no. And that's where the fun begins. He is a refined pirate of the streets while
Lady Bernadette is a rich widow who is done following the rules and decides to
make a few of her own. It was so much
fun writing this story. I got to explore
sensuality levels that step beyond the first book.
Who are some of your favorite authors? Favorite books?
Jessa Slade, Courtney Milan, and
Maire Claremont, to name a few. There
are SO many amazing authors, and I’m fortunate to know these authors
personally. My favorite books? I’m old school. I have and will always have a soft spot for
Jane Austen’s Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
and The Children by Edith Wharton.
Classics is what I return to and re-read over and over again.
If you could go anywhere, past, present, future, real or
fictional, where would you go and why?
Omgosh, I would loooooove to
step into the era of the 1820’s in London and be able to document every little
thing. From the smells (and I’m sure
there were too many, lol), to the food, to the clothes and every little nuance
of what I write about but from MY perspective that would real. That would be so freakin amazing.
What is/was your most anticipated 2012 movie?
I have two, actually. Anna Karenina and Les Miserables J
What is/was your most anticipated 2012 book?
Siren by Tiffany Reisz. I’m halfway through the book and it’s just
amazing.
If you could be any one of your characters, which one would
you be and why?
If I could be any one of my
characters, I would have to say my current character, Lady Burton. She’s got the money to do whatever the heck
she wants and a man to match it. Now
mind you, I got the man, lol, I just need the millions, lol.
Thank you so much for answering our questions today!!!
