Spotlight Author: Interview & Giveaway w/ Rhyannon Byrd
This month our Author of the Month is Rhyannon Byrd! Both of us LOVE her books, most especially her Primal Instinct series and her Bloodrunners series. Rhyannon was kind enough to answer some questions for me about her newest release and the other Bloodrunner books. And make sure you enter the giveaway at the bottom of the page!!!
Rhyannon's Newest Release
Dark Wolf Rising
(Bloodrunners Book # 4 )
Description
Eric Drake, a powerful Dark Wolf, has never trusted himself around human females-preferring to mate only within his pack. That is, until he encounters Chelsea Smart snooping around Silvercrest pack land in search of her missing sister. Secretly, Chelsea thinks Eric is the sexiest man she's ever seen, though she is wary of his potent Alpha energy. Then it's discovered that Chelsea's sister is being held by a pack of vicious Lycans, and Eric heroically leaps into action. Now, Chelsea will risk everything-her body and soul-to surrender to the passion that will mark her as Eric's woman for all eternity...if they survive.
Thanks so much for inviting me! :)
1. Tell us three things about yourself that we can’t find on
the internet.
This is always a tricky question for me, but I’ve hopefully
come up with some things that I’ve never mentioned before. :) Here goes...
1) I’m terrified of sharks. We’re talking a state of
absolute terror, as in I can hardly even watch them on TV. This is why you will
never, EVER, hear of me going swimming in the ocean...or total nightmare
scenario, actually going into a shark cage! Gaack. Mr. Byrd thinks this would
be a blast, but I’d probably be curled up in the fetal position on the floor of
one of the boat’s closets, praying to get back to land in one piece.
2) This one is probably going to sound kinda weird,
considering what I write about, but I’m also terrified of werewolf movies. I
think An American Werewolf in London is a brilliant movie, with some truly
funny scenes, but it still scares the holy hell out of me. And I can’t even
think about The Howling without getting the heebie-jeebies! But werewolves are
definitely my favorite paranormal species to write about, and some of my
favorite heroes are wolves, so I’m not quite sure what that says about me. ;) I
guess I’m okay with it as long as it’s something that has a strong romantic
element, because I’m a huge fan of Michael in the Underworld movies. Yum!!! :D
3) I was given a copy of ICED for my birthday and I’m
absolutely loving it! I love Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series and was so
excited when I heard she was continuing with this world. The wait for the next
book is probably going to kill me!
2. What or who inspired you to start writing?
I always did a lot of writing for school, because I was an
English major, but it probably wasn’t until I started reading Anne Rice that I
really started to think about writing romance. I fell in love with her
paranormal and erotic works, and could lose myself in them for days on end. It
was like I’d discovered this entirely new world that was not only mesmerizing
and beautiful, but also completely addictive, and from that point on I was
hooked. I also think that Linda Howard’s books played a big part in making me
fall in love with the idea of writing my own stories. When I first discovered
her books, I thought her alpha heroes were to die for and loved the idea of
writing romances that had that same kind of strong, mouthwatering alpha as the
hero. She’s one of my all-time favorite authors and I still think her heroes
are some of the best that have ever been written!
3. Who are some of your favorite authors? What are some of
your favorite books?
Linda Howard ranks right at the top of the list, and just
about everything she’s ever written has a permanent place on my keeper shelves.
I also love Shannon McKenna, who writes incredible heroes. Her Extreme Danger
is definitely one of my all-time favorites! I met her at a conference the year
before last and made a complete idiot of myself because I was so excited. It
was so embarrassing! I’m also a massive Lisa Kleypas and Kresley Cole fan, and
I think Shayla Black’s books are always incredible. I could go on forever
because I’m such a huge romance fanatic, whether it’s paranormal or erotic
contemp. But one of the books that will always be at the top of my favorites
list is Sandra Brown’s Slow Heat in Heaven. Every time I read that book I fall
in love with Cash Boudreaux all over again.
4. Do you ever base your characters off of real people?
I couldn’t say that any one character is directly based on
anyone I know, but there are definitely bits and pieces in there from my family
and friends. It might be a particular phrase or a quirk, or even a funny
snippet of conversation, but there are always little things that I pick up from
the world around me that find their way into my books.
5. Where did the idea for the Bloodrunners series come from?
The series actually grew from the beginning scene in Last
Wolf Standing, when Mason walks into the crowded café and catches the scent of
his mortal lifemate. From that very first interchange between Mason and his
best friend, Jeremy, the world of the Runners began to take shape, and the
characters just took on a life of their own. Since my books are always heavily
character-driven, this is usually the way it happens for me. I start off with a
scene or a bit of dialogue, and everything springs from that specific point.
6. Which of the Bloodrunners was your favorite to
write? And which one was the hardest?
I think my favorite would have to be Last Wolf Standing,
since it was the one that started the whole thing off. I had such a wonderful
time creating the Bloodrunners’ world and getting to know the series’ rugged,
lovable bunch of characters. Figuring out their different personalities and how
they all interact with each other was a blast, and there will definitely always
be a special place in my heart for Mason.
As for which one was the hardest, I think that will probably
be Cian’s, even though I haven’t written his yet. But readers will have been
waiting for such a long time for his book by the time it’s released, and that
always puts the pressure on! Not to mention the pressure I’ll put on myself to
make sure I close out the series in the best possible way. Elise and Wyatt’s
story is a hard one, as well, simply because of the subject matter and
everything that she’s been through. But watching Wyatt lose his heart to the
brave, beautiful redhead is worth every moment of torture their story is
putting me through. Some of the things he says to her just make me melt, and I
hope my readers will feel the same.
7. If you could be any one of the Bloodrunners for a day,
which one would you choose?
I think it’d be a blast to be Cian, simply because he’s such
a smartass, and I could undoubtedly learn a lot about what makes him tick by
snooping around inside his head, though I’d probably never be the same
afterward! LOL. But when it comes down to making my choice, I would happily
walk around in Carla’s shoes for a day. I love her attitude and the way she
holds her own against the other guys. Being the only female Runner isn’t easy,
but she never lets it drag her down. She gives as good as she gets, and when it
finally comes time for her own HEA, it’s going to be worth every moment of pain
and heartbreak that she’s suffered.
8. I’ve been dying to know the answer to this question for a
while now. Will Cian get his own book? I am DYING to read that guys story! He’s
my favorite! ;)
Cian will most definitely have his own book, and I’m so
thrilled that he’s your favorite! He’s one of mine, too, and I’m really looking
forward to tackling his story, which will most likely be the 7th book in the
series. There’s a good reason for this, and I promise that I’m not trying to torture
you guys with the wait. ;)
9. What can we look forward to in the future for this
series?
In the next few books, we’ll finally have the chance to
learn more about Wyatt and Elise...as well as the long lost Drake brother, Eli.
We’ll also learn more about Carla and the rather interesting group of men who
work with Eli Drake. I’m really looking forward to these books and can’t wait
to share them with you! Then it will finally be time for Cian!! I’ve also
considered coming back to the series one day and doing books for the younger
guys, like Max and Elliot. If that happens, I think it would be great to see
how all the Runners are doing and what their lives are like with their mates.
So even though Cian’s book will wrap up this first part of the series, there’s
always a chance for more stories from this world down the road.
10. Do you have anything you would like to say to your
readers?
Just a truly heartfelt THANKS for sticking with this series
over the years. I still get more reader mail about the Bloodrunners series than
any other, and although I’m not always able to respond, I appreciate each and
every one of the messages I receive! Your enthusiasm has kept me going and I
promise to do everything I can to make the future books in the series worth the
wait.
Thank you so much for letting me interview you! We really
love your books, especially your Primal Instinct series and the Bloodrunners
series!!! We hope you will come back in the future!!!
Thanks so much, Anna! I’m so thrilled that you’ve enjoyed my
books and I would absolutely love to come back whenever you’ll have me! ;)

Oh my dog, I love your nocturne books! Wolves are my favorite/ We have been collection the nocturne series since a few months after they came out. When I hear your name, the scene from the coffee shop with mason pops into my head. I do not remember which book it was, but it was hilarious. (:
