To ALL our followers....It is time for Book Lovin' Mamas to make the switch from Blogger to Wordpress.

We do not want to wake up one day and notice that we cannot logon to our blog due to Blogger changing its policies.

We have worked too hard to have that happen...so it is long overdue, we have moved over to our domain.

It will make it easier for YA'LL to find us.

We have already started to post over at the new site...and August 1st will be official day we say GOODBYE to this site for good.

Mandy Harbin's "Surrounded by Secrets" Blog Tour

First, I want to thank the chicks with Book Lovin’ Mamas for having me here today. Second, I hope no one is hung over from over-indulging in green beer last night. If you survived the Feast of Saint Patrick with no headache and ready to jump back into your love of all things books, then awesome. Ever wonder how authors decide on titles for their books and series? Sometimes we know before we write the first word what it will be titled. We might hear a song or have a dream or be exposed to some other muse where the idea just clicks and feels great. Other times, we don’t know until we’re ready to submit it to our editors and fret over something that’ll be perfect. For me, it’s happened both ways. However, not including the indie authors out there, the final decision on the title does not fall on the author. Granted, authors do have a say, but they can be overridden, especially when marketing departments get involved. All the books I’ve published to date have had titles that I’ve chosen…and were the titles I’d originally submitted. However, I do have a book that’s currently being contracted for release later this year where I was told the title has to be changed. Reasons vary from publisher to publisher, editor to editor. Each house has their own rules to abide by. But sometimes, an editor might love the story concept based on the title alone.

When I was shopping book one in the Woods Family series, Surrounded by Woods, I got great responses—two back-to-back offers and the third person I’d submitted it to was also still considering it. One of the editors loved the title and felt it was perfect for the story concept. Even though I’d declined their offer, they’d asked me to submit other work to them in the future, which I very well might…all because they loved the hook of my title. But sometimes, editors might love the book and hate the title. Stephanie Meyer had shopped Twilight titled as Forks. Her agent loved the book, hated the title. Would it have done was well had it been titled Forks? Who knows, but it just goes to show how important it is to find a title that not only works for the story, but also appeals to readers.
