Interview + Giveaway with Ashlyn Chase

1. Tell us 3 things about yourself that readers may not know about you.

AC: I’m trained as an interior designer, hypnotherapist, and phlebotomist. I can hypnotize you so you won’t feel any pain while donating blood and redecorate the office before you get there.

2. What does a typical writing day look like for you?

AC: I wake up early, come to with a strong cup of coffee while I watch the news, go to my office with 2nd cup of coffee, answer email, check social media sites, and by 9 am, I’d better be writing. I knock off at lunchtime, do errands, and the stuff of daily living. (The laundry won’t do itself!) If time permits, I read until Mr. Amazing comes home.

3. Tell us a little bit about Flirting Under a Full Moon and why readers should check it out?

AC: Brandee is a down to earth girl that most of us can relate to. Nick is handsome, charming, and on the lookout for his life-mate. Unfortunately, because he doesn’t want to get tied down until he meets ‘the one’ he gets a playboy reputation. Brandee has just been dumped and needs Nick’s attention like a hole in the head. That’s about where the ‘normal’ stuff ends. Nick’s a werewolf and Brandee knows nothing about the paranormal. It is fun and mayhem from that point on. You’ll have to read it to know what I mean!

4. What was the easiest and hardest scene to write in Flirting Under a Full Moon? (without giving away too much)

AC: The easiest scene to write was Nick as a wolf, getting shot in the hindquarters—then shifting and showing up naked and bleeding at the hospital with his big hands covering his junk. (I have a bizarre sense of humor sometimes.) The hardest scene to write was probably the love scene where they were so hot for each other, they couldn’t get enough…but only had 1 condom.

5. What is your favorite type of character to write? Least?

AC: I love to write the character with no filter. He or she just says whatever they please and to heck with what others think. I have one like that in almost every book—including this one. What character don’t I like to write? I don’t know. I have fun with villains too.

6. What inspired you to write the Flirting with Fangs Trilogy?

AC: I had a hard time saying goodbye to my Strange Neighbor series. Flirting with Fangs is a spin-off series, and I was able to bring a few of the characters from the first series back. For instance, Nick’s an identical twin, and I was delighted to revisit his brother Konrad, hero of The Werewolf Upstairs.

7. Fun Question: If you could have dinner with one famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

AC: Jim Carey. He has a fascinating life story, and I’ll bet he could make me laugh with his antics. It would be fun to see if I could make him laugh too.

8. Do you ever suffer with writer's block, and if you do, how do you handle it?

AC: I refuse to give in to it. If I reach a point where I need to take a break, it’ll be a short one. I might write something quick like a novella while giving the novel some breathing room, but I never stop.

9. What is up next for Ashlyn Chase?

AC: Book 2 in the Flirting with Fangs series, How to Date a Dragon, will be in stores in September, and then Book 3, Kissing with Fangs comes out in March 2014. I’m currently working on a proposal for my agent. I don’t want to say too much because it’s not under contract yet, but it’ll be a whole new series with a new setting, a new premise, and some interesting new characters! I’m already having fun just brainstorming it.

10. Do you have anything specific you want to tell your readers?

AC: You are getting sleepy. (Buy my books.) Your eyelids are heavy. (Buy my books.) You’re now completely relaxed. (Buy my books.) LOL

lol! I love your attempt to hypnotize me to buy the book. You are so silly, well I gotta run and order a book. Maybe you have heard of it... Flirting Under a Full Moon ;)

Oh, Sharon. I love how you think it didn't work. And i love being silly. :)

Ash, you don't need to hypnotize us to buy your books -- your writing already does that!

Awww, Venus. Thank you!

And to answer your question, Meghan,
I just sort of 'fell into it.'
One of my former publishers asked me to write a vampire romance. It became Vampire Vintage. I had so much fun writing it, I had no problem expanding into other paranormals areas.

And June, if that's your style, you'll like this one. I had a lot of fun with it.

One of the things I love best about PNRs is the premise of a predestined forever mate, the instant recognition of one's soulmate. That is so sexy.

I agree, Sebella! I do that with my vampires too.
