Jo Davis "Sworn to Protect" Blog Tour (Interview) + Giveaway

Welcome to our Virtual tour stop of Jo Davis's "Sworn to Protect" Blog Tour brought to you by Book Monster Promotions.
Welcome to Book Lovin’ Mamas! We are so glad to have you here today!

Thank you! I’m so glad to be here again. I’ve visited as J.D. Tyler, and you guys are so much fun.

1. Tell us 3 things about yourself that readers may not be able find out about you on the web.

I’ve answered this before, on various blogs, so I’ve tried to come up with three new things…

*I love to play slot machines! I’m cheap, though, and stick to pennies and quarters. It’s a fun day out to the casino when I’ve finished a book!

*I adore Boston terriers and I’ve had three in my lifetime. We have a pretty female Boston named Muffin who has one blue eye, and is the sweetest baby ever.

*I recently bought a new home, and that’s a story in itself. But the interesting thing is that for the first time in my entire life, the home I’m living in is NOT haunted. No paranormal activities or spirits whatsoever. I’m sleeping great, but I’ll admit I’m a little disappointed!

2. What does a typical writing day look for you?

I get up around 7 a.m. every morning and my coffee must come first! I can’t function without it. Then I check my email, social media, blog if needed, and then around 8:30 I start writing. I write until around 3:00 p.m. and I’m done. My brain is tired, so unless I’m on a tight deadline, I quit for the day around then.

3. Could you give us a little sneak peek of how your research process happens with a new book or series?

I like to use real-life contacts to research and check my facts. For example, for my new Sugarland Blue series (out May 7 with SWORN TO PROTECT) I have a personal friend who’s a police detective. He gives me advice and checks my facts to be sure they’re as true to his job and how things run at a police department as possible. (Hi, Jerry!) Any mistakes I make, however, are my own. (Or, ehem, author creative license!)

4. When you’re not writing, what are your hobbies/interests?

One of my guilty pleasures is a massage to unwind. I also like to catch up on my reading, traveling, decorating my new house, walking, shopping, and lunching with the girlfriends.

5. Who are some of your favorite authors?

For the mainstream, I enjoy Jim Butcher and Stephen King, and John Sandford. I love sci-fi/fantasy and police thrillers. I also enjoy m/m romance.

6. When you are deep into writing what is your biggest pet peeve?

Unbelievably, I’ve never been asked that question before! I’ll answer with pleasure. My biggest pet peeve is friends or family calling, emailing, and messaging, “Aren’t you done with that book YET?!” I’m going to be a bit sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek here, so fair warning: Um, NO. I’m a writer by profession, that is how I pay my bills, and I will NEVER be done! (Especially if I have to keep answering that damned question because every single person thinks they’re the only one asking it.) I’ll die at the keyboard wearing my pajamas, my hair pulled up in a clippie, with a cup of coffee beside me! So, no I’m not done with the fucking book. And yes, we can still go to lunch.

7. Do you ever base your characters on people you know in real life?

Whooo, meeee?! Of course not! (wink, wink) Because that would, you know, just be sooo wrong! Okay, yep, sometimes I do. Especially if they piss me off, then I kill off their character in creative and gruesome ways. The pen is mightier than the sword—and great therapy, too.

8. Who is your favorite character you’ve ever written?

That’s a tough question! I’d have to go with my top 3: 1) Howard “Six-Pack” Paxton from TRIAL BY FIRE 2) Aric Savage from SAVAGE AWAKENING (as J.D. Tyler) and 3) Captain Sean Tanner from RIDE THE FIRE

9. If you could be any one of your characters, from any book you’ve written which one would you be and why?

That’s an easy one. I’d be Sorcerer/Necromancer/black panther shifter Kalen Black from BLACK MOON, written as J.D. Tyler. It would be so awesome to be the most powerful sorcerer on the planet! I know a couple of people who need to be turned into toads, like really bad. And I’d poof myself into a sexy body, too.

10. Do you have anything specific you want to say to your readers, maybe about what’s coming in the future from you or anything else?

SWORN TO PROTECT is out on May 7th! Here’s the blurb:

Detective Shane Ford, Sugarland’s favorite cop, has been blindsided by the sudden death of his best friend, NFL star Brad Cooper, and becoming the legal guardian of Brad’s son, Drew—a bitter, angry sixteen-year-old with a dangerous secret. Shane is determined to pry the truth from Drew, but only manages to alienate him—and winds up going head to head with Juvenile Detective Daisy Callahan, whose job is to protect the teen’s best interests.

Shane has always been drawn to Daisy’s beauty and strength, but he’s determined not to allow their intense attraction to interfere with his duty ever again. It’s a vow that will prove difficult to keep, as the realities of Shane and Daisy’s blossoming love and their growing bond with the grieving teen propel Shane headlong into danger for the new family he’s sworn to protect.

I also have a 3-part e-novella series coming out later this year that I can’t say much about yet. It’s contemporary romance. Stay tuned for more information!

After that is HUNTER’S HEART (Alpha Pack #4) writing as J.D. Tyler, coming in September. This is Ryon Hunter’s story, and I’m very excited about this one. It’s a “predator” story, if you will. The most chilling danger to the team is the monster they can’t see coming…

Thank you so much and we hope you will come back again! :)

Thanks for having me here! It’s been such fun!

Hi Victoria,
That depends on your interests... If you like hunky heroes, suspense, and firemen, start with TRIAL BY FIRE, book one of my Firefighters of Station Five series. Or you can start with the new book, SWORN TO PROTECT, which has some of the firemen coming back for small parts, and read Detective Shane Ford's story.

I hope you enjoy both series! Thanks for coming by!

I love when writers share their routine on interviews. It's funny how we always imagine things in a different way - like writers beeing awake all night long, without inspiration or something... I know it's a cliche, but a typical work day can never fit on my idea of a writer... lol
Nice interview!

I really enjoy reading stories like this that include the interaction with the confident man who is now confronted with a child or teenager that stymies him.
