Review

I’m new to this series and this author, so I wasn’t sure what I would get when I agreed to read this book. I’ve heard good things from many of my fellow readers though so I figured I would enjoy. And while I did enjoy it, it didn’t totally impress me. The story was great, I absolutely love the real history used, it made it very interesting but I felt there was a bit too much story and not enough romance, for me at least.

Ewen and Janet were great characters. Both are very strong minded and strong willed people, so they made quite the match together but I didn’t really connect with them the way I usually do when reading. They just didn’t capture my attention very well.

Coming into this series with this book probably wasn’t my best decision but I enjoyed this one enough to be intrigued about the rest of the series. There was just too much thrown at me in this book that I didn’t enjoy it like I wanted to but I’d probably feel different if I’d read those other books first, so I plan to do so. I gotta know what happened with those other guys now!

So overall, this book was enjoyable but it’s not a favorite for me. I would definitely recommend this book to highlander lovers but you might want to read the other books first because I found myself getting lost or being given too much information at once. There’s plenty of action and suspense, a lot of great characters, some very interesting history and a bit of romance though. Everything you’d want in a great historical novel! J
