Guest Post & Giveaway with Jeanette Murray
Welcome to our virtual tour stop of Jeanette Murray's The Office and the Secret brought to you by Sourcebooks.
Why I Love Writing
About Marines In Romance Novels
Sounds like I’m about to stand up and give an oral report,
right? Ahem. (Picture a nine year old Jeanette standing up, holding a
much-smudged piece of paper.)
Because Marines are
freaking hot.
Okay, so my third grade teacher would have failed me on that
one. But facts are facts, right? Heroes in romance novels are designed to
inspire something inside us…usually something of a visceral nature. Heroes are
often firefighters, cops, PIs, professional athletes…or ex-versions of the
same.
And I just happen to have a serious yen for the military
man. I mean, I married one, so that’s pretty handy, right? Research at my
fingertips. But more than that, I just truly believe in the authenticity of the
Good Guy Marine. I’ve known enough through my years of bouncing to bases,
meeting friends’ husbands, meeting friends of my husband, co-workers, and just
people you bump into in town. They are, overall, a fantastic group of
individuals.
It’s hard to deny the physical aspect…Marines keep in shape.
That’s just a given. And I’ve always liked a clean-cut man. It’s just a
personal preference, I suppose you could say. But there’s just something a
little extra that gets packed into the punch the uniform gives you visually.
You look at a guy standing there in a polo and khakis, and he’s good looking.
But you slip him into cammies and boots? BOOM.
He’s triple-glance worthy.
But their commitment to their service is legendary. They’re
not called “the few, the proud” for nothing, let me assure you.
So I love writing Marines because when you open that book,
you know what you’re walking into. You’re getting a man dedicated to a cause
that’s bigger than him, who looks mouth-watering in a uniform and is prepared
to sweep a woman off her feet…and let her sweep him off his boots a time or two
as well.

Kat (or Jeanette!) spends her days surrounded by hunky alpha men…at least in her imagination. In real life, she’s a wife and a mother, keeping tabs on her husband of seven years, her four year old daughter (often called Tot) and the family dog, a lovable (but completely stupid) Goldendoodle named Clyde. Hang around long enough and you’re guaranteed to hear at least one or two stories about these three.
One Lucky winner will win a paperback copy of The Officer and the Secret by Jeanette Murray from the publisher.
