Thank you so much for having me here today! I’m so excited to release POSSESSION book two in The Plus One Chronicles. I decided to write this story as a trilogy for three reasons:

1)  It’s too big of a story for one book. I can see it topping the 600 (manuscript) page mark.

2)  The story has three defined parts:

Part one is Kat’s Story in THE PROPOSITION. As that book opens, Kat’s hiding behind her sweet creations in her bakery but longing to break out. Six years ago Kat was attacked with a baseball bat and although her ex-fiancé was with her at the time, he did nothing to help her. That has left Kat has serious trust issues and panic attacks. At the beginning of the story Sloane Michaels, an ex UFC fighter and self-made billionaire, rescues Kat from carjackers and chemistry sparks between them. Sloane offers Kat a proposition: be his plus-one and his sex partner, in return he’ll teach her self defense. Can Kat trust Sloane; a man who built his career on violence as an UFC figher? Kat takes the chance that sizzling passion burns between them.

Part Two, is Sloane’s story in POSSESSION where everything begins to change for him. Sloane doesn’t believe in love and is convinced that the chemistry between him and Kat will burn out after spending some time together.  But Sloane is facing the brutal reality that Drake, his mentor who has been like a father to Sloane, is dying. It’s ripping Sloane apart and there’s nothing he can do to change it. The more he feels Drake slipping away, the more he’s driven to hold onto Kat. Even though he knows the best thing for her, for both of them, would be to end it before they get in too deep. But he can’t let her go…until his past rears its ugly head.

Part Three, OBSESSION, is both Kat and Sloane’s two emotional arcs coming together in the explosive conclusion.

3)  And the third reason was simple, I can write faster in the serial format than a full book. I wanted to get this story to my readers and not make them wait a second longer than I had to. I love Kat and Sloane with all my writer’s passion and am striving to give them the most powerful story I can manage spread over three long-novella length books.  An added benefit of doing it this, one that I really didn’t foresee is the absolutely amazing and perceptive reader response! I get to engage with readers about Kat and Sloane’s story as I’m writing it. And since the readers have read part one, and now part two, they are actively engaged. It’s been a very special experience for me.

                Those are my reasons for making The Plus One Chronicles a trilogy.  But I also want to share with you a little bit about what inspired me to write these books: Kat and Sloane’s story came to me after one of my sons went through a very serious and life-changing injury. Watching him battle his way back and rebuild his life was and continues to be a huge inspiration for me.  While he’s had a few tough moments, he refuses to let his injury destroy his life or make him bitter. His will just amazed me. It was during my son’s long recovery that Kat began to take shape in my mind, and along with her came Sloane who recognizes and cherishes Kat as a beautiful survivor with a victorious heart. Here’s a quick scene clip from POSSESSION showing Sloane’s view of Kat as he first begins to realize that this isn’t just another plus-one arrangement:

“What do you want?”

“To be able to handle this.”  Her gaze hit his. “Have sex with you and not make it anything more.”

Sloane stared at her, his entire body twanging in reaction. Strength and vulnerability radiated from her.

So beautiful and scarred. Inside and out. Emotion rubbed him like sandpaper. She tugged at his chest and dried his mouth. A dozen years ago, when he’d first seen her, she’d been a child at sixteen, a young beauty he hated for what he perceived as her fairytale-like life while his sister was dead.

But now, the innocence had been stripped away, leaving a fighter struggling for footing on moving ground. She brought out his protective instincts like no one else since Sara.

Sloane went to her, fitting his front to her back, caging her with his arms. Feeling her weight against him, he settled his chin on her head. “Too late. We both know this is more.”

1. Can you tell us three things about yourself that we might not already know?

Um…let's see. I inherited a collection of antique books from my grandparents and have continued to build the collection with my bibliophile husband. Even though I'm a dirty-book writer by night, I'm a straight-up Suzy Homemaker—I garden, can produce, bake bread and sew—during the day. I embarrassed the hell out of myself in front of THE Stephen Hawking as a freshman in college. Definitely not of one my finest moments!

2. What is your favorite type of character to write? Least favorite?

Oh, I love writing big, sexy alpha males and smart, feisty heroines. I don't really enjoy writing villains. There's something icky about getting into that headspace but it's part of the process, you know?

3. When you are deep into writing what is your biggest pet peeve?

A ringing doorbell! In this house, it usually means a grumpy preschooler yanked out of her nap and a horse-sized Great Dane flying downstairs and throwing himself at the door. It's quite a ruckus!

4. Does music ever play a part in your writing process?

Yes! Music plays a huge part in my writing process. I share my office space with a Cheerio-throwing 3-year-old and Bosley, our beast of a dog who likes to sit under my desk and lick his feet. Music and headphones are a must! J

I usually put together a playlist for each book. I choose music for the action and love scenes and especially for the Black Moment. I listened to a lot of M83, Local Natives and even the Red Army Choir writing the Her Russian Protector series.

5. Now for the most important question…What can we expect for the future of this series?

Yuri and Nikolai's books are up next, releasing on May 14, 2013 and June 11, 2013. The mystery of the event that tied Nikolai and Vivian together is hinted at in Dimitri's book. More details are revealed in Yuri's story where we learn even more about the men and the childhood secrets that bind them together.

You can also expect some free reads featuring Ivan and Erin, the original couple in the series, that fit in with the subsequent books. At some point (early next year?) I plan to write a book about Eric Santos, the Houston PD Detective who works the gang unit and makes appearances in every installment of the series, and possibly a novella for Kostya, Nikolai's "cleaner."

1.  Tell us 3 things about yourself that readers may not be able find out about you on the web. 

Hmmm. Let's see. I was a volunteer firefighter during my senior year of high school and worked as a medic while in college. (That's actually how I met my husband! Our gazes met across a busy ambulance bay at, like, 2 in the morning! Haha!)

I'm a regular Suzy Homemaker—I garden, can, sew, bake from scratch—which probably doesn't fit with the dirty-book writin' mama stereotype. (No feather boas and bon-bons here, alas.)

I'm a mama to a heart baby so I'm a huge activist when it comes to prenatal and newborn heart defect screening. (http://babyheartscreening.com/)  Remember to ask for a pulse ox before you take your baby home from the hospital!

2.  What does a typical writing day look for you? 

A typical writing day for me is really unorganized. I work at home and share my office space with a 3-year-old and a Great Dane so it's noisy and there are interruptions galore. Even so, I wouldn’t trade my working arrangement for anything! So I try to squeeze in chunks of writing while kiddo naps or plays quietly (well…quietly for her!) and then very late at night. Typically, I write at least 3000 brand spankin' new words a day.

3.   Could you give us a little sneak peek of how your research process happens with a new book or series? 

Sure! So with the Grabbed series, I did a lot of research into generational space ships, nanotechnology, astronomy and astrophysics just so I could build a world that was *mostly* scientifically possible. I mean, this series wouldn't be considered "hard" science fiction but I wanted the technology to be plausible. Also—I studied civil wars, insurgency and terrorism (ugh—bleak, I know) so I could create a convincing and realistic backdrop to the world these characters inhabit.

4.  When you’re not writing, what are your hobbies/interests?

I love to garden! We're pretty serious about growing most of our own food and doing a lot of from-scratch cooking in this house so I do a lot of cookbook collecting and recipe tweaking, especially since my husband is a diabetic. I'm also a huge fan of canning and freezing produce to enjoy during our (very short!) Texas winters. Yummy!

5. Who are some of your favorite authors?

I'm pretty much obsessed with Laurann Donher lately. Cherise Sinclair is another auto-buy for me. I discovered H.M. Ward a couple of weeks ago and have been on a reading spree. Oh and Carol Lynne! Her M/M series like Campus Cravings and Poker Night and Cattle Valley are some of my all-time favorite reads. 

6.  When you are deep into writing what is your biggest pet peeve?

I'm not a fan of ringing doorbells or phone calls. It's rough to be pulled out of a scene by that kind of annoying interruption.

7.  Do you ever base your characters on people you know in real life? 

I'm inspired by people I know in real life but I would never base a character solely on one person. That's kind of creepy! I like to pick and choose traits and quirky habits from real folks to build realistic, believable fictional characters.

8.  Who is your favorite character you’ve ever written? 

I'm not sure I have a favorite character. I've loved so many of them. I'm really enjoying Terror (from the Grabbed series) and I had so much fun writing Whitney (the fashionista heroine of Between Friends.)

9.  If you could be any one of your characters, from any book you’ve written which one would you be and why?

Shoot, I'd love to be Hallie for a day! To have that big, sexy alpha male Vicious doting on me? Yes, please!

10.  Do you have anything specific you want to say to your readers, maybe about what’s coming in the future from you or anything else?

There are going to be *at least* six more books in the Grabbed series with Ellora's Cave. The second book, Caught By Menace, will be released soon and I'm in the middle of contracting the books for Venom, Raze, Cipher, Terror and Torment right now. There are new characters introduced throughout the books so I don't see a quick end to this series any time soon! J
