My Review:
Wanna know what happened to Shane Garrison and Jen from "Because of You", well I definitely wanted to know and I am so happy that Jessica Scott wrote this short story of them.  Shane and Jen touched my heart the minute I read them in "Because of You".

"Anything for You" continues their story and how their relationship is growing.  They are dealing with problems any couple would have and how those problems may break them apart or make them grow stronger.

Shane has a choice to be made in this book and it may break Jen's heart, but he is willing to do anything to keep her forever, even if that means taking away something that she wants most.
Jen is also dealing with her own issues and she is having to make her own decisions, even if it means not seeing Shane for awhile.

This short story made me realize even more how I love this couple and how they deserve a happily ever after.

I recommend this short story to everyone who loved Shane and Jen and wants to know what happens after "Because of You".
Fair warning though, you may want tissues while reading it.  It may be short, but Jessica manages to make me cry even with this one.

Blog Tour: "Until There Was You" by Jessica Scott (Interview/Giveaway)

Welcome to our Blog Tour Stop of Jessica Scott's upcoming release "Until There Was You" which releases October 8th, 2012.  =)

1. Can you tell us 5 things about yourself that readers may not know about you?

Other than I'm partially crazy? Um, let's see: I have 2 hamsters Hammy & Fluffy who talk to me, I developed a serious affinity for Pralines and Cream Ice cream while I was deployed, I'm a cosmetics fanatic, I hate running and I'm a chronic insomniac.

2. What does a typical writing day like for you, especially when you also are a career soldier?

HA! There is no typical writing day for me. I try to write for a couple of hours every night, especially when I'm on deadline. And that involves a lot of Twitter, Facebook and random surfing of the interweb before I finally buckle down and get some word count in. I'm a terrible procrastinator.
3.  For readers who may be new to your books, please tell us a little bit about your Coming Home series?

The Coming Home series is about Soldiers coming home from war. The first book is set in 2007 during the Surge years. The second book takes place shortly thereafter.

4.  What was the hardest scene to write in "Because of You"?

Probably the infamous catheter scene. I had to watch a video of an entubation and everything! But its the one scene that people keep talking about and writing me about so it was worth it.

5. How many books are planned for the series?

Right now the series is open ended. I have at least 2 more books I'm working on right now so we'll see where the story takes me.

6.  What inspired you to create the "Coming Home" series?

OIF and OEF (Operation Iraq Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom) have impacted my life from the moment they started. I wanted to write a novel that people would read about soldiers coming home from war that would help reach people who might not read anything about the war otherwise. I wanted them to pick it up for the romance but also get a perspective about what life is like in the military at war, too.

7.  When you're not writing, what are your hobbies or things you like to do?

I have no hobbies unless you count making pilgrimages to Sephora.

8.  If you could have dinner with one famous person (dead/alive) who would it be and why?

Michael Sandel from Harvard. I love his books and he's so thought provoking.

9.  If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

New Zealand. It's just beautiful.

10.  Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I'm so incredibly fortunate for the support of so many wonderful readers. I have gotten some of the best letters from people who have said that BECAUSE OF YOU made an impact on them. I'm so grateful to everyone who has supported me over the long road to published.

Fun Quick questions:
1.  coffee or tea: coffee, hands down
2.  sunrise or sunset: sunset (it means I'm awake because I want to be not because I have to be)
3.  winter or summer Winter (because I love sweaters)
4.  beach or mountains Mountains
5.  country music or rock n' roll Hard rock all the way!

Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats and three dogs, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she's a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon and someone liked some of the stuff she wrote. Somehow, her children are pretty well adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.

My Review:
I was excited to read the next installment to Jessica Scott's Coming Home Series.  I really enjoyed the first book.  ( I actually had a hard time putting down the first book while reading it on my Kindle)  =)

Captain Evan Loehr is follow by the book Captain in the Army.  He comes across a redhead one day and is astonished that is she is also in the Army as well.  He has always said to himself, that he would not mix business with pleasure, but the redhead keeps tempting him to give up that saying.  He ends up going on deployment with the redhead a couple of times and those times he butts heads with her a lot.  Now he is forced to deal with her again during training in Colorado.
Captain Claire Montoya, who used to be in the Army as enlisted, has worked hard to put on her Officer rank.  She is all about the Army and she wants to help train her friend, Sara's group in Colorado, but Claire is not liking the schedule the Colonel has for them.  She has Captain Evan out to tell her how it is supposed to be done, but of course she is not having it.  She remembers meeting him years ago and being on deployment with him.  While working with him, she gives him the nickname of "Captain America" because he is always following the rules and making everyone else follow the rules.  One night though, Claire has to help her friend out, Reza, who is going to end up getting in trouble in the Army.  She has considered him family since they met when she was enlisted.  Evan helps her with Reza...but in the mean time, he gives her a lecture on what she should of done.
My thoughts on "Until There Was You" because I do not want to post any spoilers about this book...is that I really liked the book.  I did not have as much as a connection with the characters like I did with the first book, but I did enjoy the storyline of the book.
I found myself holding back tears when I heard the dark secret that Evan was trying to hold back.  He has been harping on it since he was a teenager and Claire managed to get it out of him.  Claire also has a secret that she has been hiding.  It actually explained why she felt compelled to help her friend, Reza out a lot.
I love how Jessica Scott, writes about the training of what Claire and Evan were doing in Colorado and how I actually felt like I was there when the characters were trying to conduct the training.
What Claire does at the end for her friend, I found surprising.  I do not think I would have the guts to take the blame of it.  She really did care about Reza and it took someone else stepping in to tell Reza what Claire was about to do for him.
Evan is definitely a character who really needed to lighten up in the book, but once he's secret came out, I understood him better.
The supporting characters in the story were not like the supporting characters in the first book.  Reza was getting on my nerves on what he was doing and then LT Engle who is in the story also, and she was a hard to understand at first until the end when she had a secret as well.
The Colonels in the story were scary...LOL...I definitely felt compelled to stand at parade rest with them when they handed butt chewing to the characters.  LOL
This was a very enjoyable read and I really look forward to the 3rd book in the series.  =)
If you're a contemporary military romance reader, you definitely need to check out these books.

Review: "Because of You" by Jessica Scott

Because of You
(Coming Home #1)
Publishing Date: 11/14/11
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group
Genre: Military Contemporary Romance
Source: Provided by Author

Description:
From the war-torn streets of Baghdad to the bittersweet comforts of the home front, two wounded hearts navigate the battlefield of coming home from war in this explosive eBook original from newcomer Jessica Scott.
Keeping his men alive is all that matters to Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison. But meeting Jen St. James the night before his latest deployment makes Shane wonder if there’s more to life than war. He leaves for Iraq remembering a single kiss with a woman he’ll never see again—until a near fatal attack lands him back at home and in her care.
Jen has survived her own brush with death and endured its scars. And yet there’s a fire in Shane that makes Jen forget all about her past. He may be her patient, but when this warrior looks her in the eyes, she feels—for the first time in a long time—like a woman. Shane is too proud to ask for help, but for Jen, caring for him is more than a duty—it’s a need. And as Jen guides Shane through the fires of healing, she finds something she never expected—her deepest desire.

My Review:
We were contacted by Jessica Scott last month to read and review "Because of You" for an honest review.

May I just say...I have found yet another author who can make my emotions go haywire.  There were times I was smiling, laughing (where I almost fell out of my chair), and of course crying (because this book was a tearjerker at times) when reading this on my Kindle.
I fell in love with both of the characters, Shane and Jen because both characters had been scarred in someway and of course they're trying to deal with their problems in their own way.  Shane is a sergeant first class in the army and all he wants to do is go back to the sandbox with his boys and make sure they all come back alive.  Jen is the nurse he meets one night at a bar with his friends.  The minute he meets her...he knows she's something special.  Shane has dealt with a lot in his past.  He's trying to forget about his divorce with his wife and move on...but to move on...he considers deploying a lot with his fellow soldiers, the best way to heal.  Instead...he ends up injured and sent home.  That is when Jen comes into his life fully and he helps him deal with what happened to him in the sandbox.  Unfortunately, Shane is not having it.  He just wants to heal and get back with his men because in the bottom of his gut, he knows something is happening in his platoon and someone is not doing their job right and is blaming some of the casualties on Shane and his unit.
Then there's Jen..and how she has her own problems, she's trying to deal with.  (Her story touched my heart once I found out what happened to her)  I don't think I've cried so hard in my life.  Between and her Shane's inner and outer demons...I had to have tissues near by.
Jessica Scott does a great job on telling the parts about the military and of course the problems that come with the military at times.  She also includes other characters in the book, that touch your heart also.
What I want to know is what happened to Trent?  That was one serious cliff-hanger.  Trent is one of Shane's best friends and he's also a Officer in the Army.  He is having his own issues to the book and his wife...oh boy...no won't go there because I will spoil the book.
I really do not want to spoil this book for anyone who is wanting to read it or now is thinking about reading it.
I'm really looking forward to the 2nd book now that comes out in October. Jessica Scott has a fan for life.  And by the way...I just love the fact that she is serving in the Army while she is writing.  =)  Thank you for serving, Jessica.
I recommend this book to readers out there that love military contemporary romances, love to read about scarred heroes/heroines (because they always touch your heart), and  readers who just want a book that takes you through an emotional roller coaster.  (Just a warning ahead of time, be prepared with tissues)

Jessica Scott's "Because of You" touched my heart in so many ways because she happened to address some issues that are happening in our military nowadays...one being the major concern, which is suicide and another one being divorce.  Being a veteran, myself, who served in the Navy for 10 years I witnessed so much in the military that civilians do not know about.  The one thing that always concerned me was the suicide rate in the military branches, especially during and after an deployment. =(  I wish they provided more help to the soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen that come back from a combat zone...especially when it involves family.  There are programs out there...but they really need to address it more.
