Katie Reus Blog Tour - (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Thank you so much to the ladies at Book Lovin’ Mamas for having me here today!

I absolutely love to read—clearly, or it’s unlikely I would be a writer. While I love reading full length novels, my schedule doesn’t always allow it. Sometimes I just want to read something bite-size and get a quick happy ending (that sounds dirty, but I don’t mean it that way lol). Luckily there are so many fabulous novellas available now. When I first started writing (before so many types of ereaders hit the market), the only novellas I found available were either from erotic publishers or in print anthologies from traditional publishers.

Now, things have changed and traditional publishers are putting out novellas in digital format only (yay!) which is awesome for many reasons. In fact, novellas are pure awesome and this is why I enjoy them so much:

1. I don’t have to buy a three or four-author anthology anymore just to read one author.

2. I can read an entire novella at the end of a long day and get my HEA fix.

3. Many authors are now releasing novellas in between their full length books, giving readers more to read in their favorite series’.

4. I’ve found that novellas tend to be more character driven since everything has to be written very tight, especially the external conflict.

5. Lower prices!

What about you? Why do you like novellas?  Leave a comment and be entered to win a print copy of Primal Possession (US only), my upcoming release in the Moon Shifter series! In the meantime, Lover’s Instinct (a novella!) is out now.

Lupine shifter Nikan Lawless has it bad for Esperanze Cordona, the sweet and curvy woman who only views him as a friend. But when Nikan is assigned to act as Esperanze’s bodyguard during a weekend education conference, he knows it’s the perfect opportunity to seduce her off her feet—away from the pack.

To put his plan into motion Nikan cancels one of their hotel rooms, giving them time to get to know one another in a whole different way. But when a man from Esperanze’s past shows up in need of help, Nikan must shield her from a group of dangerous rogue shifters, all while trying to prove that they’re destined to be mates.

A little about Katie: I’ve been reading romance since a young age—ever since I discovered my mom’s hidden stash. Luckily the addiction stayed with me into adulthood. I write paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense for Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, and NAL/Signet Eclipse. I love novellas. I gives you a fix before the next story comes out. I also love anthologies because it gives you a chance to check out other authors without having to purchase a full-length book. Novellas are also cheaper and give you a chance to check out a new-to-you author. In novellas it is usually the in-between story. I like them because sometimes in 2nd or 3rd books their is always time missing. Usually the timeline is 6 months to a year later. Loved the first book of this series. Can't wait to read the novella and the 2nd book. Thanks for the great giveaway.

I love novellas that fit between books in a series because it gives you a further insight into some of all of the characters. I also like them because it makes it feel like I am not having to wait the whole 6 mths to a year for the next book in the series to come out. Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway! Can't wait to read both =)

I love Novellas because you can read and finish them within a naptime or lunch bread etc...... Sometimes it's nice just to have a shorter book!
Thanks for the giveaway!

I discovered Novellas in the past year and love them. Especially when you just learn about a series and you can read several novellas in at once (like the Bound series by Cynthia Eden)! I did purchase Lover's Instinct and am looking forward to reading that after I finish the longer book I am reading now. It does give you a quick fix! Thanks, Katie and congrats on your success!

Novella's are the sure thing to hook a reader into any series. To be able to read more of low lying characters in stories or to be able to understand a main character in a book better is always a plus and can give not only the reader more room of the understanding but I think it can enhance the Author to be able to make a series go further.

The short stories are just as you said something that you can read in a day. I love my books with a glass of wine and a quiet house. With two children this happens late in the evening and having a husband that enjoys the quiet as much as I do really helps.

Btw, Lovers Instict was amazing and it was great to know more about Ana's cousins family as they lost Alicia and in the first book the tragedy really made you want to know more about her family!!

Thanks for all you do and giving mommys the nice break we need sometimes :)!

I like novellas because they often give us insight to secondary characters as well as fill in back story. Thank you.

I like novellas, especially when they are part of a series that I love (like this one, lol). Since getting my Kindle, I do find that I read more novellas than I ever did before.

I like novellas because they're a quick, but satisfying read. It's a great way to showcase more minor characters in a series so they get their story told, and maybe introduce the series characters to new readers.

I usually stay away from novellas unless it's a series I'm following. Usually I have a hard time with the lack of page numbers and characterization but when a novella follows a book I loved, it turns into a little treat and holds me over till the next full release
