Blog Tour: "Mating Instinct" by Katie Reus (Interview/Promo/Giveaways)

Welcome to our Virtual tour stop of "Mating Instinct" by Katie Reus brought to you by Book Monster Promotions.

Thanks so much for having me here today, ladies! And can I just say I LOVE Anna’s avatar on Goodreads!

1. Tell us 5 things about yourself that we would not be able to find on the web.

KR: I lived on a boat one summer in The Keys many years ago (when I was still in college), I hate flying over bodies of water, I’m not a fan of public speaking, I met my husband when I was working as a bartender, and my dream vacation is to Scotland.

2.  What does a typical writing day look for you?

KR: With a young son I don’t have completely ‘typical’ days anymore, but I try to wake up early and get in a couple hours of writing before he’s up. If I’m lucky I can get in my entire word count in the morning. Then anything else is just icing on the cake. If not, I work during his naptime or at night once my husband can help out. Heh, or I hole up like a fiend on weekends when my MIL watches my son and cram in a week’s worth of writing in two days. Basically, when I’m working on a project, I give myself a specific word count I need to meet that day and make it happen.

3. Tell us a little bit about Mating Instinct and why readers should check it out?

KR: Mating Instinct is full of danger, action, romance and sexual tension. Oh, the sexual tension! Kat and Jayce have a rough history and unlike the first two heroes in this series, he doesn’t even try to feign civility. He’s five hundred years old and this human woman just knocked him on his ass and by the time Mating Instinct releases, he’s not even trying to fight his need for her anymore. Unfortunately for him, she is.

For the official description:

As the beast within struggles to break free, he must learn to be what she needs…

Surviving for centuries, powerful lupine shifter Jayce Kazan managed to stay away from humans until he met Kat Saburova and was consumed by the need to protect her. But while Jayce shared his passion with the human seer, he refused to make her his bondmate—a refusal that caused the end of their relationship.

A year later, an attack that left Kat near death has resulted in another lupine shifter turning her. Furious that he wasn’t the one to save her, Jayce is determined to show Kat that he is the one she should rely on. But the newly turned shifter is still traumatized and worried that she’ll hurt those she loves, unless she can learn to control her inner wolf.

And as Jayce struggles to protect Kat from her own worst instincts and convince her to rekindle their love, the extremists who almost killed her are looking to finish the job…

4. How many more books are planned in the Moon shifter series?

KR: As of right now, after Mating Instinct, there will be two more books and one novella in the series. It’s possible the contract could extend, but I just don’t know at this point.

5. If you could be one of your characters from the Moon shifter series, who would you be and why?

KR: Ack, this is hard! Hmm, I should probably pick someone totally kickass like Kat or Erin but…I adore Esperanze (the heroine in Lover’s Instinct, novella 1.5). She’s a beta, which in the Moon Shifter world means physically weaker, but she’s a teacher, loves reading and education and she’s mated to a seriously hot alpha wolf who worships her. I don’t know if that’s who I would want to be, but that’s who I’m most like, lol.

6. What has been the easiest and hardest scene to write in the series so far?

KR: Fighting scenes come more naturally to me. I envision them in my mind, like a movie playing out and sometimes I can’t write them fast enough. Some of the really emotional scenes, especially between Kat and Jayce were hard to write. Making sure all the emotion they’re feeling is conveyed on the pages was sometimes a struggle. While I know what they’re thinking, I need to make sure the reader does too.

7. Why inspired you to write the series?  (Did you have love for the wolf shifters....because I know I do...and I am addicted to your wolf shifters...*sigh*)

KR: I’m totally in love with shifters! I discovered paranormal romance because of Sherrilyn Kenyon, then after her I discovered JR Ward and fell in love with all these smoking hot vampires/DarkHunters, etc…but I desperately wanted some hot shifters. Since then I’ve actually discovered some great shifter series but up until that point I’d only read vampires (yes, I apparently lived in a cave, lol) and just really wanted some hot shifter stories. Writing about men and women who aren’t afraid to tap into their animal instinct is awesome.

8. Who does the covers to the series?

KR: Katie Anderson (and she’s uber talented!)

9.  What is up next for Katie Reus?

KR: This year I’ve got two to three more Red Stone books planned to release and in October the first book in my new romantic suspense series will be launching from Signet! The title of the first is Targeted and I’m very excited about it. And there’s a possibility of something else releasing that I can’t talk about just yet.

10.  Do you have anything specific you want to say to your readers?

KR: Thank you for being awesome! Over the course of 2012 my reader base has seriously grown and I can’t tell you how awesome it is to interact with so many amazing people online.

Fun questions:

11.  If you could have dinner with one famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

KR: I’m always an epic fail with this question. I could give you a really clichĂ©d answer like Anne Frank (though talking to her would be amazing), but for the mood I’m in now, I’m gonna say Chesty Puller. He was a general when he retired from the Marines and he’s pretty much a badass. He was the only Marine to be awarded 5 Navy Crosses…which is insane! The man was a tactical genius.

12.  I noticed on your FB page as well as Kaylea Cross's FB page, that you went to visit her...what kind of adventures did you do together?  =)  (She is another one of my FAVE authors...which I cannot get enough of)

KR: I adore her! She’s one of my best friends and I feel so lucky to have her in my life. I got to see White Rock, which was pretty cool since Psych is filmed there (I love that show), we had an amazing spa day for her birthday, I got to visit Vancouver and really, just getting to hang out with her for four straight days was awesome. I got to meet almost all of her family and some of her friends and they are a fun bunch! Ha, we visited Starbucks a lot ;)

Thank you lovely ladies for having me as a guest! As a thank you, my publisher is giving away one copy of Mating Instinct (US only) to one random commenter.

Katie fell in love with romance at a young age thanks to books she pilfered from her mom’s stash. Years later she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it. However, she didn’t always know she wanted to be a writer. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in psychology and working too many jobs she hated, she finally figured things out. She now spends her days writing dark paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense. Her publishers include Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, Ellora’s Cave and NAL/Signet Eclipse (Penguin). Regardless of genre, she always includes a happy ending. When she’s not creating stories she loves spending time with her husband and family.

Katie Reus Blog Tour - (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Thank you so much to the ladies at Book Lovin’ Mamas for having me here today!

I absolutely love to read—clearly, or it’s unlikely I would be a writer. While I love reading full length novels, my schedule doesn’t always allow it. Sometimes I just want to read something bite-size and get a quick happy ending (that sounds dirty, but I don’t mean it that way lol). Luckily there are so many fabulous novellas available now. When I first started writing (before so many types of ereaders hit the market), the only novellas I found available were either from erotic publishers or in print anthologies from traditional publishers.

Now, things have changed and traditional publishers are putting out novellas in digital format only (yay!) which is awesome for many reasons. In fact, novellas are pure awesome and this is why I enjoy them so much:

1. I don’t have to buy a three or four-author anthology anymore just to read one author.

2. I can read an entire novella at the end of a long day and get my HEA fix.

3. Many authors are now releasing novellas in between their full length books, giving readers more to read in their favorite series’.

4. I’ve found that novellas tend to be more character driven since everything has to be written very tight, especially the external conflict.

5. Lower prices!

What about you? Why do you like novellas?  Leave a comment and be entered to win a print copy of Primal Possession (US only), my upcoming release in the Moon Shifter series! In the meantime, Lover’s Instinct (a novella!) is out now.

Lupine shifter Nikan Lawless has it bad for Esperanze Cordona, the sweet and curvy woman who only views him as a friend. My Review:
This was a very short and sweet novella that quenched my lupine love just a bit.
I also got a sneak peek of the first chapter of the next book of the Moon Shifter series that comes out next month, "Primal Possession", which I've been counting down to.  =)
I had not been able to read for a few days now thanks to errands and school work...so I needed something to read in between college assignments that would take me away from American Government (that happens to be really boring...ugh).
"Lover's Instinct" definitely helped me get out of my rut that I was in thanks to school.
I love this new series from Katie Reus. =)
This short novella is about Nikan and Esperanze (I love her name).  Esperanze is heading to a convention in Washington D.C..  She needs to get away from the pack for a bit since what happened in the first book.  The pack had suffered a major loss of loved ones and are still recovering, so Esperanze thought it would be a good idea to get away for awhile and get her mind off what happened.  Nikan, volunteers to go with her and protect her.  Of course, Nikan has other plans in the mean time.  He has always been in love with Esperanze, since the moment his pack alpha decided to hook up with Esperanze's pack alpha (who is her cousin).  Esperanze has love Nikan also, but she's only a beta and she swore never to hook up with a alpha...actually a warrior class alpha.  It's going to be hard for her though when Nikan becomes very possessive and protective of her when they go to the convention.
Esperanze is actually there to see her old professor too and in the meantime her professor is now a vampire and now he's in danger.  It's up to Esperanze and Nikan to figure out what is going on and save her old professor from being killed.  Although, it will be kind of tricky when it involves vampires and shifters...which they are supposed to be getting along.
What I loved mostly about this book was how Nikan was with Esperanze (or Essie for short).  She had no clue that he loved her, but when he finally admitted it.  Oh boy!  =)
I think Essie is more Alpha though instead of Beta because the girl can take care of herself.  =)
I loved the storyline to this book too.  It was short though...but that's because it is a novella.  I love reading novellas because it gives you a sneak into the world of other characters.
I loved the idea behind other supernatural creatures that were talked about in this book too.  Another shifter was introduced in "Lover's Instinct" and actually helped out Essie and Nikan during their mission.  I want to know more about what is going with the Vampires and Shifters though...and what the bad guys did.  You'll understand when you read this short novella.  I do not want to give it away.  =)
Let me not forget the sex...ummm...Nikan definitely had me squirming.  *sigh*
I'm looking forward to Liam's book next.  I loved him in "Alpha Instinct".
I recommend this novella to Katie Reus fans, paranormal romance readers, and shifter lovers.  =)
This will definitely keep you happy for next months' release.  =)
Let the countdown continue to "Primal Possession".  =)
