Alexandra Ivy - Interview and Giveaway
As you have probably noticed, Alexandra Ivy is our Author of the Month and I was lucky enough to be able to do a short interview with her. I LOVE her Gurdians of Eternity series, and it just so happens that a new one has just released. It's called Fear the Darkness and is the 9th book in the series! :)
A little about the new book...
The Guardians of Eternity are embroiled in an epic battle for survival. They are as dangerous as they are sensual—and their lustful appetites are legendary...
Her Visions Lead Her To Danger
Beautiful Cassandra is a Were, a prophet both vulnerable and defiant, blessed with visions that portend the fate of the world. A rare and delicate creature, Cassie must be protected at all costs. Enter Caine, a powerful cur turned pureblooded Were whose recent tangles with a demon lord have left him in serious need of redemption. Caine is duty-bound to keep Cassie out of danger—and that means resisting his potent urge to seduce her.
And Only He Can Save Her
As Cassie's mysterious visions lead them in and out of danger, Caine believes he has found his true mate, the woman with whom he is bound for all eternity. Cassie is both charmed and frightened by Caine's magnetism, and unsure if he—or her feelings for him—can be trusted. But Cassie can't afford to doubt Cain now. A deadly enemy bent on destruction is closer than they realize—and only they can keep chaos from ruling the world.

We'd like to welcome Alexandra Ivy to Book Lovin' Mamas today! Thank you so much for being here!
1. Can you
tell us something interesting about yourself that we can’t learn on the
internet (can be anything)?
I love to play video games!
I don’t really have time with my current schedule, but when my boys were
young we used to spend hours together playing Mario, Zelda, and UN Squadron :)
2. What or who
inspired you to become a writer?
I actually came to writing from my love for theatre. I’ve always been a huge reader, but when I
was younger I hoped to work on stage.
After taking a playwriting class I realized I actually preferred to
create my own characters rather than mimicking someone else’s. I worked on a play (that I would still love
to finish), but my heart has always belonged to romance, so I swiftly turned my
efforts to novels.
3. What does
a typical writing day look like for you?
I always get up early and exercise, otherwise I can find a
dozen excuses not to do it :) Then I
usually go through email and stop by my facebook and twitter pages. I also do some promo work. Then, I start writing. If I’m in the middle of a book I can write
until I go to bed. My poor family have
learned that once I disappear into my office they won’t see me for several
hours.
4. Do you
have any traditions when you start or finish a book?
Before I start any book I always do an outline (although it
often changes) and character interviews.
I have to have a good grasp on my characters or I find myself stalled
within the first chapter or so. When I’m
done...well, I always promise I’ll take a week off, but somehow that never
works
5. Can you
give us just a little peek at your research process, if you have one, in
general when you're preparing to start a new book?
I do always research the area where I’m going to set the
book. I rarely, rarely write about a
location that I haven’t visited in person.
I also try to write up short blurbs about the individual homes or
businesses, such as a vampire bar or an
imp coffee house.
Now a little bit about the series...
6. Can you
tell us just a little bit about the Guardians of Eternity series and where you
got the idea for the books? (There are a bunch so you don't have to detail them
all or anything :)
They all started with a nugget of an idea about a sexy clan
of vampires in Chicago. At the time I
was writing historcals under the name Deborah Raleigh, but I fell in love with
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I couldn’t resist creating my own paranormal
world. I hadn’t really intended to send
them to my editor since the paranormal world at that time was dominated by
dark, broody books, but I was chatting with my agent and he suggested we give
it a try. I never dreamed that someday I
would be working on book ten :)
7. Which
book or maybe I should say character was the hardest to write and which one was
the easiest to write?
The heroine is always the most difficult. I love, love, love kick-ass women, but they
also need a vulnerability as well as flaws.
There’s nothing more boring than one dimensional characters. The easiest is always Levet :) He’s the embodiment of my inner snarky and I
have so much fun writing him!
8. If you
had to choose one of your characters (man or woman) to be for a day or longer
if you want, which one would you pick and why?
I think it would be Jaelyn, my Hunter vampire. She has mad skills and isn’t afraid to use
them!!
9. Have you
ever based a character on a person you know in real life?
Always!! They aren’t exact replications, but I take bits and
pieces of people to create a completely new character. Oh, I just realized. I sound like Frankenstein!!
10. Can you
give us any hints (anything at all) about what is to come in future books?
I’ve just started a new series “The Sentinels”. The first book will be featured in an
upcoming anthology, PREDATORY, that will be published in May 2013, followed by
a full length book that will be published fall 2013. These stories are centered on a group of
people who have X-Men like powers. I’m
very excited to see what the readers think of them!! And, of course, I’m always working on the
next Guardian book. Santiago’s story
will be out June 2013.
