Review
I never pass up an anthology, especially one with two of my
favorite authors and this one I waited months to finally get to read! This
anthology offers new stories of vampires from 4 of the biggest PNR writers
today!
Out of Darkness by Alexandra Ivy
This was a great story and a great start to her new
Sentinels series! I'm really looking forward to what she has in store for us
with these guys! I loved the whole idea and the characters were entertaining.
Ties the Bind by Nina Bangs
This story was good, not great but I enjoyed it well enough.
It's one of those that I wish had been longer because it just felt way too
rushed to me. I wanted more.
In Still Darkness by Dianne Duvall
I LOVED this story! I’ve been following this series since
the beginning and it was such a treat to finally get Richart’s story and I
couldn’t have picked a better woman for him either! I love the world that
Dianne has built with these Guardians. Her characters are always interesting,
the men are supremely hot and the women kick ass! This one was no different! I
can't wait for the next book in the series to release because I need more!!!
High Stakes by Hannah Jayne
I wasn't at all crazy about this story! I just couldn't
connect with the characters. I'm sure there are many readers out there that
would love it but it just wasn't my style of vampire story.
I'm a bit mixed with my feeling about this book but I would
still recommend all you vampire lovers give it a try, if for no other reason
than to get a taste of Alexandra Ivy's Sentinels and Dianne Duvall's Guardians,
because those two stories alone are fantastic. The other two, though iffy for
me, may be something you'll enjoy.

1. Can you tell us three things about yourself that we might
not already know?
I once fell off the stage in the middle of a performance and
ended up on the front page of the local newspaper.
I once had a ferret.
I love, love, love baseball.

2. What is your favorite type of character to write? Least
favorite?
My favorite character is the funny sidekick (like my
gargoyle from the Guardian series). They
always get to say exactly what I would say if I had the nerve. And they don’t have the burden of carrying
the story. They can pop in and out
whenever they want. My least favorite is
the bad guys that are going to stay evil.
I always feel the urge to reform them and give them a story where they
become the good guy J I believe in second chances.
3. When you are deep into writing what is your biggest pet
peeve?
INTERRUPTIONS!!! I
work from home and I adore my family, but it’s way too easy for them to step
into my office for a ‘quick’ question.
For them it’s just a minute, for me, it’s a half hour wasted.
4. Does music ever play a part in your writing process?
No. I actually start
typing the words unconsciously J
5. Now for the most important question…What can we expect
for the future of this series?
We have six books plus a small Christmas bonus story planned
for the series! It will follow the story
of the Pantera as they struggle to discover the evil that is threatening to
make them extinct. I think the readers
will enjoy the journey, and of course, the hot, hot romance as each story
unfolds.

Bayou Heat Blog Tour: Raphael & Parish by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright (Guest Post & Giveaway)

Sea Food Gumbo
Ingredients
- 1 cup
all-purpose flour
- 1 cup
vegetable oil
- 2 cups
finely chopped onion
- 2
green bell peppers, finely chopped
- 1 crab
- 1
lobster tail
- 1/4
cup Creole seasoning
- 4
pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1
pound crabmeat
- scallions,
finely chopped
- parsley,
finely chopped
Directions
Make the roux: Heat
fat or oil over medium high heat. Add flour all at once whisking vigorously. When
mixture thins and starts to bubble, reduce heat to low and cut back on the
whisking. Cook until you smell a toasty aroma then cook 2 minutes more,
stirring occasionally.
Bring 10 quarts water to a boil in a large pot. Stir in the
onion, bell peppers and roux and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally,
until the vegetables are very soft, about 45 minutes. Add the blue crab and
lobster tail and boil until cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the
lobster tail and crab; discard the crab. Let the lobster cool slightly, then
remove the meat from the shell and cut into small chunks; refrigerate until
ready to use.
Add the Creole seasoning to the pot and bring to a boil;
cook until the liquid reduces by one-quarter, about 1 hour, 30 minutes. Add the
shrimp and cook over medium heat until firm, about 20 minutes. Add the crabmeat
and reserved lobster meat and cook 10 minutes. Stir in the scallions and parsley
and remove from the heat. Cover and let stand 30 minutes. Serve over rice.
