Texas Haven Virtual Book Tour: Review

Reading Addiction Blog Tours

A voracious reader, Kathleen quickly discovered the world of romance novels and she knew she was home. Kathleen wrote her first book two years ago. She was shocked to find out that people loved what she wrote. All of Kathleen's novels are award winners. Callie's Heart is her first published novel. It is the first book in The Lasso Springs Series. Kathleen lives in Texas. She moved there from Rochester, New York and is having the time of her life exploring Texas culture. Kathleen is married to her wonderful husband Bruce and they have one son, Steven. They just welcomed new additions to their family, a new daughter in law, Brittany and her cute as a button son, Colt.
She feels blessed to be supported in her writing by her family and friends.

She just needs  to get Annie out of the way.

Misunderstandings, accidents, and treachery cause Annie to return to New York, shattered. Finding herself pregnant, Annie heads back to Texas only to hear from Alice that Burke denies that the baby is his.

Discovering Alice’s misdeeds, Burke throws her off the ranch. He tries his damndest to lasso Annie once again. Nothing seems to work. Making one last effort, Burke takes Annie for a walk under the Texas stars and gives  her the one thing she wants most- his heart.

My Review
I have conflicting feelings about this book. I enjoyed it, it's a great story with interesting characters, sexy love scenes and a very entertaining story line and it started out great but it seemed to go on and on and that left me a little frustrated. Every time it got to a critical point where you think "oh it's finally time for him to come to his senses" or "yay, she's finally going to stand up to him" and then something else would happen. I'm not saying it was bad because it wasn't, I just felt like there was a little too much, that's all. Sometimes it's ok for there to not be so much conflict, this is one of those times in my opinion.

Annie and Burke are polar opposites, one being a total city person and the other being pure country. I liked and disliked the dynamics between between the two. I alternated from hating Burke to loving him throughout the whole book. He's a typical Texan man. Strong and silent but when he has something to say you listen. (I should know having grown up in Texas and still being here.) I wanted to slap him at certain points though because I mean come one, how can the man not see what is happening? But I guess he is male right? LOL And Annie, that girl has had a hard life with lots of horrible things that happened to her yet she's still happy and looking forward to a new day. I think it was Annie who kept me tuned into the story. I wanted to help her so bad, she just really really needed someone on her side. I even found myself yelling at the book at certain points because she didn't deserve what was happening to her, with her psycho brother, the crazy ex and sometimes even with Burke. She's just so sweet and good and deserved the best but there were times when I didn't think she would get even close to that.

The secondary characters where both good and bad. The bad ones specifically being that darn ex of Burkes and Annie's brother. I don't think a woman can get anymore shrewish than Alice. She's awful, everything about her screams I'm a horrible person. And the brother, wow, he's pretty awful too. The way he treated Annie made me want to jump into the book and give it back just as good as he gave it to Annie! He deserved nothing less!! The ones I loved were the towns people. They so remind me of the people in the small Texas town I grew up in. Friendly, welcoming and totally lovable. All of them were genuine people who came across as the most caring people. I loved that the author captured that part of a small Texas town so well. Even though I am here in Texas at home still, it made me love my home even more than I already do.

The only thing I think I would like to have seen changed with this book are maybe have it a little bit shorter with out so many ups and downs. It was like a roller coaster at times and I had a hard time sticking with it. Otherwise, it was an okay read.

Overall I give this book 3.5 Moons and I recommend it to those who enjoy a good sweet romance and those of you who enjoy western romance. It may not have been my favorite but it was still enjoyable and I know there are many out there who would absolutely love it! :)
