What it Means to be a BIG Cat…Part Time by Terry Spear

You might work part time or go to school part time or write part time, or be involved in any other activity or hobby part time. But what if you were a part-time jaguar?

How would that affect your lifestyle? Jaguar shifters aren’t affected by the moon like werewolves are. Which means?

You have to be careful about when and where you shift. It can be good if you are faced with some bad guys. Even if they have guns. Can you imagine the startle factor? He’s prowling around looking for a human to kill and all of a sudden there you are with big teeth and eyes that look into the very soul of a person before you spring and pounce?

So which would you rather be? The bad guy with the gun? Or the jaguar with the big teeth?

But what if you shift when you shouldn’t? And that’s the real problem. Can you imagine sitting in a jungle village café eating burritos, listening to beautiful South American songs, and you can’t stop the shift? Here you are, perfectly happy, munching away, and the next thing you know, if you don’t get naked really fast, you’re going to be trying to fit into your jeans and cotton shirt as a jaguar. Won’t work. Not that I’ve tried it, mind you. But anatomically, it just wouldn’t work.

Don’t think Incredible Hulk here because a jaguar’s body isn’t that strong that it’s going to rip out all those sewing machine made stitches, and jeans are sturdy, so just tearing them up isn’t an easy task. Nope. I can’t even imagine what a mess that would be. Especially since as a jaguar, you’d want to make a fast exit off the café patio and make a hasty retreat for the jungle.

So let’s say you have a couple of friends with you, only they have a lot more control over their shifting than you do. What do THEY do? Remember, everyone that ran screaming from the café knows that they were with YOU. Which means? They realize your friends might be shifters, too.

They have several options. Pretend the person that just shifted in front of them didn’t exist, wasn’t their friend, and they didn’t know you. Or run after you as humans to lend moral support and hope none of you get caught by a non-friendly hunting party. Or join the party and shift, too!

This particular scene never happened in SAVAGE HUNGER, although yes, Kathleen did have some very harrowing experiences with the problem with shifting.

What would Connor and Maya do? As a reviewer commented, they were the Three Musketeers. And what does that mean? All for one and one for all!
So tell me the truth now. If your friend suddenly turned into a shifter at the wrong time…good friend’s wedding, picnic at the park, you name it, would you pretend not to know her? Run off screaming with everyone else, pretending to be shocked out of your skin? Or would you stick by her side, friends through thick and thin?

Thanks so much to Booklovin Mamas for having me here today, and one lucky person that answers my question will have a chance to win a copy of SAVAGE HUNGER.US/Canada Addresses Only.

Thanks so much for having me here today at Book Lovin' Mamas!!! Good luck to everyone who comments!!!

LoL, good question, I guess it would depend on my mood, but I'm guessing I would follow my pack or pride whichever a group of jaguars are called. Wait, do jaguars live in packs? Funny how one question leads to the next.

Good luck with your new release :)

LOL, Marguerite! They are actually loners, the males overlapping a couple of females' territories. Why should the guys have more than one kitty cat? Thanks!

Laurie, I'd agree! It would be a total shock!

She stood by me through a lot so I'd stand by my best friend and probably be like 'I hate you! I want to be a shifter!' but I wouldn't run off on her or pretend not to notice her! I'd be boasting that I'm her best friend! Lol!

LOL, that's cute, Suzi! I love it!

The bright colors remind me of the jungle! :) Thanks for coming by, Angela!

I had a typo in the last comment (I'm so bad without a proof reader). What I meant to say was, "I'm just happy looking at your book covers!"

Friends to the end :)

LOL, no problem, Angela, I hate when I do that in one of these comment blocks!

Allison, agreed!

Friends through thick and thin means just that. You don't bail when the going gets tough. If you are a true friend it wouldn't matter where it happened.

I so agree, Just Peachy!

I would stay with them - cautiously until I knew they were cognizant of our friendship.
