Guest Post & Giveaway with Donna Grant

Please give a warm welcome to Donna Grant to Book Lovin' Mamas today, where we let her takeover the blog.

I love writing books in a series.  I always have.  Even before it became the “thing” to do.  There’s something appealing about seeing past characters I feel in love with show up in other books.  I love getting to see more about their lives past the HEA and how they interact with the new characters.

A lot of readers ask why I began my Dark Sword series set in Medieval Scotland.  The simple answer is because I love medieval Scotland.  The swords, the Highlanders, the untamed land.  All of which are still around today, but for me, there’s something very sexy about a man who will defend those he loves face to face with another man and only a sword between them. J

The long answer is that there were all these amazing series that I gobbled up as quickly as the authors/publishers put them out.  Yet most were set in modern times.  I wanted and need that historical aspect.

Imagine my surprise when my editor and I were chatting back in early 2011 and she threw out the idea of me moving my Warriors to modern day Scotland.  I was so taken aback that for a minute I didn’t say anything.  Then, ideas began to swirl fast and furiously.  Two hours later I agreed to continue the Dark Sword series as the Dark Warriors series.

It was a major leap for me, because while I had dipped my toe in writing time travels (heroine goes back to medieval times) and a novella set in contemporary England, the thought of a full length book – multiple full length books – now in a contemporary setting scared the hell out of me.

Which is why I did it.  I like to push myself as a writer.  Many readers were upset when I left the historical setting for modern day.  Many more had no idea why there were no more Dark Sword books.  After the first two Dark Warriors books (MIDNIGHT’S MASTER & MIDNIGHT’S LOVER) released back to back earlier this year, I still get emails asking if I’m going to continue the Dark Sword books.

To confuse readers even more, I’ve fallen in love with this new setting so completely that my publisher asked me to set up a spin-off series with three novellas.  Since I’d been waiting for a chance to write dragons, the Dark Kings were born and will be heavily connected to the DS/DW series.

With the next set of back-to-back Dark Warriors books set to release, I’m excited to tell you about MIDNIGHT’S WARRIOR.

This is Ramsey’s book.  Ramsey first shows up in DANGEROUS HIGHLANDER, and I knew even then that he was going to have an amazing story.  He didn’t disappoint.  I had no idea what kind of backstory he’d have, but when his heroine, Tara, popped onto the scene, both were screaming for me to get to their story.

Writing their story was a labor of love.  Each day they drained me emotionally and mentally, but the next morning I couldn’t wait to get back to them and see where they took me next.  They constantly surprised me, which makes writing so much fun.

Without further ado, let me introduce you to Ramsey and Tara…

A Heart in Hiding

For ten long years, Tara has been a woman on the run, hiding from the magic-wielding Warriors and Druids of modern-day Scotland.  Now, as a tour guide at a remote Highland castle, she hopes to finally escape her past – until one impossibly gorgeous man enters her life…and exposes her wildest secrets.

A Warrior in Love

For centuries, Ramsey MacDonald has concealed his strength and skill as part Warrior, part Druid, for fear of unleashing the full force of his power.  But when he takes Tara into his arms – and seals their fate with a kiss – Ramsey will have to fight for her love…though it may mean losing control of the magic inside him.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Donna Grant has been praised for her “totally addictive” and “unique and sensual” stories.  She’s the author of more than thirty novels spanning multiple genres of romance.  Her latest acclaimed series, Dark Warriors, features a thrilling combination of Druids, primeval gods, and immortal Highlanders who are dark, dangerous, and irresistible.  Donna lives with her husband, two children, three cats, and a dog in Texas.  Visit Donna at www.DonnaGrant.com.
Up for grabs is a signed copy of MIDNIGHT’S SEDUCTION.  To be entered, just tell me what your favorite romance setting (historical, contemporary, etc) is to read.
Captivating and enticing, Saffron Fletcher is a rarity in the Druid world—a Seer. She is the ultimate prize in an epic battle. After suffering horrendously at the hands of evil, her thirst for justice is all that keeps her going. Can she put her trust in the sinfully gorgeous, wonderfully dangerous Warrior who haunts her dreams and promises retribution for their common enemy?
Camdyn MacKenna is hungry for revenge…until he falls prey to Saffron’s seductive magic. She enchants him like no other. But if Camdyn yields to her allure, will he be strong enough to defeat their sworn enemy—and resist the rising forces of evil that could destroy their love forever?

My favorite is contemporary paranormals (especially taking place in Scotland or with Scottish characters!).

I love contemporary settings but add paranormal elements and I am thrilled! I also enjoy sci-fi settings as well.

I like both historical and contemporary especially if it is a continuation of a story line. Love the Dark Sword/ Dark Warrior series and can't wait to read more about your Dragon Kings. :)

I've long loved historicals, pretty much anything pre-1900; but lately I've been on more of a paranormal kick. books sound interesting, thanks for the giveaway chance.

I love all genres of romance, especially paranormal. But for romantic setting I think I prefer historical. There's something about the description of the castles and the way of life back then that appeals to me more than any other setting. When I read a historical, I'm immediately swept away because of the setting. Thanks for the giveaway. Damaris

I love all settings so long as it has a paranormal twist to it. Although, there is something magical to be said about old castles. And who doesn't love a man with an accent?

I love almost all romance settings, but I think something with a paranormal twist or ones with old castles and sexy accents would be on the top of the list.
