Interview + Giveaway with Macy Beckett
1. Tell us 5 things readers may not know about you or find on your website.
Macy: Hey, Book Lovin’ Mamas! Thanks for letting me hang with you today. Here are a few things you might not know about me:
- I’m a former “military brat” who grew up everywhere. I’ve lived in eleven different states and two countries.
- My favorite candy = Junior Mints.
- In addition to romance, I write sci-fi for teens. My YA debut, ALIENATED, is coming in February 2014 from Disney-Hyperion.
(link: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13574417-alienated )
- Yes, I have lived in Texas. (I get this question a lot!)
- If I ever make it big—we’re talking JK Rowling big—I will finance a film version of my favorite book, Jane Eyre, and do it right!
2. What does a typical writing day look for you?
Macy: Once I shuttle the kids to their destinations in the morning, I try to get as much writing done as possible before lunch, when I pick up my youngest from preschool. Then the kids come home and inevitably start fighting. (Boys ::sigh::) For the rest of the day, I write in fits and starts, taking advantage of little pockets of peace as I find them.
3. Tell us a little bit about A Shot of Sultry and why readers should check it out?
Macy: A Shot of Sultry is Trey’s book, who you met in book one, Sultry with a Twist. In this installment, Trey is paired with his best friend’s little sister, Bobbi Gallagher, who returns to her hometown to film a dating reality show in which Trey is the star bachelor. It’s a hilarious, wild ride, and the chemistry between these two is HOT.
4. What inspired you to write the series Sultry Springs?
Macy: I was inspired by June and Luke, the main characters in book one. They “appeared” to me in the shower one morning, and I knew I had to write their story. That’s when the Sultry Springs series was born.
5. How many books are planned for the series?
Macy: As of now, only three. The final book, Surrender to Sultry, releases in August and follows Colton Bea, who you’ll meet in book two.
6. What has been the most challenging scene to write in either the first or second book? (Of course without giving away too much) =)
Macy: Hmm…probably the “black moment,” the scene where everything falls apart and the future seems hopeless. I hate making my characters suffer—I love them too much. ☺
7. Do you ever suffer with writer's block and if you do how do you overcome it?
Macy: Sure. In fact, I’m blocked right now. Writer’s block usually means there’s a problem in my scene, and I can’t move forward until I figure it out. I overcome the blockage by taking a walk or a quiet drive without the kids. I find that my mind can work out the problems if I give it a break.
8. If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Macy: I want to visit Tahiti and stay in one of those huts built right over the water.
9. What is up next for Macy Beckett?
Macy: I have a lot going on! After the third Sultry Springs book, Surrender to Sultry, releases in August, I’ll launch a brand new series in 2014, coming from Penguin. 2014 also marks the release of my YA sci-fi series. Readers can find out more about my books—for adults and teens—on my website.
10. Do you have anything specific you want to tell your readers?
Macy: I *love* hearing from you! Seriously, nothing makes me smile like an email or a post on my Facebook page telling me how much you enjoyed one of my books. It truly makes my day.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Books-a-Million | IndieBound | Chapters/Indigo | Discover a New Love | Sourcebooks
Description:
Welcome to Sultry Springs, Texas: where home can be
the perfect place for a fresh start.
For West Coast filmmaker
Bobbi Gallagher, going back to Sultry Springs is a last resort. But with her
career in tatters, a quick trip to her hometown might get her the footage she
needs to salvage her reputation. She just can't let anything distract her
again. Not even the gorgeous contractor her brother asked to watch over her. As
if she can't handle filming a few rowdy Texans.
Golden boy Trey Lewis,
with his blond hair and Technicolor-blue eyes, is a leading man if Bobbi ever
saw one. He's strong and confident and--much to her delight--usually shirtless.
He thinks keeping his best friend's baby sister out of trouble will be easy.
But he has no idea of the trouble in store for him…

Great interview! Congratulations on your success!
Can't wait to read this book!
I reaad the first book in this series and loved it!
I really enjoyed reading this interview.
The "black moment" is a moment I look forward to not for the suffering but to see how they deal. I definitely feel the hurt right along with the characters when they do.
Hey, guys! Thanks for having me on the blog today. :)
~Macy, posting under her super-secret true identity.
