Interview + Giveaway with Carolyn Brown

Welcome to our virtual tour stop of Carolyn Brown's Billion Dollar Cowboy brought to you by Sourcebooks.
1. Tell us three things about yourself that readers may not know about you.

CB: Thank y’all so much for inviting me to Book Lovin’ Mamas for my first stop to promote, Billion Dollar Cowboy, the debut book in my brand new series, Cowboys & Brides. It’s a pleasure to be here, to get to know all y’all and visit a while. Ok, now to answer the question :-)

One: I wrote a humorous newspaper column for fourteen years that garnered several Oklahoma Press Association awards. Two: I have fifteen grandchildren and twelve of those are girls. Three: I’m a mail order bride for real. The story is in this month’s issue of RT Book Reviews for those of you who’d like to read it!

2. What does a typical writing day look for you?

CB: I’m a fairly early riser so I stumble across the hall from bedroom to my office, write a thousand words during which time Husband, bless his darlin’ heart, makes coffee and without a word sets a cup on my desk. Then we have breakfast together (he’s a retired English teacher) and then it’s back to the office. By supper time I like to have five thousand words done if I’m working on a rough draft. If I’m working on revisions, blog tour interviews or posts or plotting out a brand new series then that is my job for the day. It all boils down to about an eight hour day and I feel so fortunate to be doing what I love.

3. Tell us a little a bit about Billion Dollar Cowboy and why readers should check it out?

CB: Colton might be a billionaire but he’s just an old country boy at heart. The women won’t leave him along, going so far as to drug his beer to try to put him in a situation where they’d have a toe hold into his bank account. Laura has to have a lot of money and has to have it very fast to get her sister, Janet, out of gambling debts again so Andy, Colton’s best friend and financial advisor, hires her to be his assistant. All she wants to do is pay off her debt and get away from Ambrose, Texas but the family needs someone to pretend to be Colton’s girlfriend. They both have trust issues and lots of past baggage but the heart wants what it wants. The reason why readers should check out Billion Dollar Cowboy is because the heart doesn’t recognize dollar bills, even if there is a billion of them. It has no eyes or ears and depends on pure love to keep it beating. Billion Dollar Cowboy is about having money but realizing that it can’t buy happiness or trust.

4. What inspired you to write the Cowboys & Romance series?

CB: When I finished the Spikes & Spurs series, four cowboys showed up with hats in their hands. They wanted me to write their stories and I turned them down flat. I know nothing about the rich and famous world and these cowboys were beyond wealthy. Colton was even a billionaire. But then I looked at down and realized their boots were scuffed up and that settled it. Any cowboy who wore boots like that had to have a story worth telling.

5. What are some qualities that make Colton Nelson very desirable to readers?

CB: Colton has a gentle spirit but he’s a strong man with a sense of values and what is right in his world is always right. He’s damn fine looking (check out book cover) and he’s got a great sense of humor. And besides he likes snow cones. He’s not afraid of hard work and he puts in a day with his hired hands rather than hiring a ranch manager. And he loves his grandmother and protects Roxie, the teenager that his grandmother is fostering, like she was a little sister.

6. What was the easiest/hardest scene to write in Billion Dollar Cowboy?

CB: The easiest scene was the very first one when Laura is eating supper with the family for the first time. She relates to Roxie so well because she’s been in her shoes; she connects with Colton even though he’s still suffering from the drug induced beer incident. The hardest one to write was the final one because I had to tell the whole cast goodbye and move on to the next book.

7. Fun Question: If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

CB: I would go visit Scarlett O’Hara for one day. I’ve read Gone With the Wind many times since I first got my hands on it when I was a teenager. I’d like to be there at that party when the book opens and meet Mammy and all the other characters.

8. Do you ever suffer with writer's block, if you do how do you deal with it?

CB: Not very often. Mostly time gets away from me when I’m in my virtual world and I can’t believe I have to stop for the day. But if my characters decide to take a nap and not tell me what is happening next (This does not happen on a regular basis. Usually they are arguing and fighting in my head about who gets the POV during the next scene) I do like to take a walk through Husband’s flower gardens in the back yard and pet the tom cats who fiercely protect their territory.

9. What is up next for Carolyn Brown?

CB: The last of the Spikes & Spurs, Cowboy Seeks Bride, will be published in August. And then the second book in Cowboys & Brides, The Cowboy’s Christmas Baby, will arrive in October. After that the schedule looks like this: The Cowboy’s Mail Order Bride (Feb. 2014), my second women’s fiction, The Red Hot Chili Cook-Off (April 2014); the final Cowboys & Brides, How to Marry a Cowboy (May, 2014) and the third women’s fiction, The Yellow Rose Barbecue Ball (July, 2014).

10. Do you have anything specific you want to tell your readers?

CB: THANK YOU! Thank you for reading my books. Thank you for taking the time to review my books. Thank you for telling your neighbors and friends about my books. Thank you for buying them, sharing them and giving them as gifts. And thank you for writing sweet notes to me after you’ve read them. You are all awesome and I’m sending big Texas sized cyber hugs to you all.

Description:
Colton Nelson was 28 when he won the Texas Lottery and went from ranch hand to ranch owner overnight. When people started lining up wanting some of his millions, he hired a friend, Andy Joe, to handle his affairs and find him a bride and buy her, no matter what the cost.

Laura Baker and her sister, Emily, had been raised in foster homes. Though she was the younger of the two, Laura was always bailing Emily out of trouble. So when Andy Joe slid into her booth at a diner one night and made a proposition to Laura, it seemed the perfect solution...until Laura met Colton and realized she didn’t give a damn about his money and that her love was not for sale.
