Blog Tour: "Love is Darkness" by Caroline Hanson (Interview/Giveaway)

Welcome to our Virtual book tour stop of Caroline Hanson's "Love is Darkness" brought to you by Bewitching Book Tours.
1. Tell us 3 things about yourself that readers may not know about you.

-I grew up in Fresno and went to HS with Kevin Federline. Yeah…that’s the level of celebrity Fresno is rocking.

-I’m obsessed with Florence and the Machine.

-I’m going to Comic-Con in July and am determined to wear a costume.

2. What does a typical writing day look for you?

Eh. Like most moms, I have a lot to do and none of it pays very well. Sometimes I get several hours a day, sometimes it’s two. There is never enough time!

3. Tell us a little bit about "Love is Darkness" and why readers should check it out?

I’m a big believer that any good writer is a reader first. I had pretty much read everything in terms of paranormal romance and urban fantasy by the time I wrote my book. So I knew what I liked and what I didn’t like. I didn’t like seeing super-strong, gorgeous heroines that I could not relate to. I did like love triangles. And I also didn’t like how vampires were becoming so romanticized. In my mind, a vampire is a monster. That’s what makes them great. They are always smart and sophisticated and yet they do evil things. I love the idea that at some point they may have had morality and that it has been eroded over time. So my series is about a normal girl forced to be a hero to save the people that she loves. And lots of kinkiness and violence ensues!

4. What was the easiest and hardest scene to write in the book? (without giving too much away)

The sex scenes. The most fun and the hardest. I had insomnia writing Lucas’ sex scene. I’d built him up as a marvel in the sack. So I didn’t know what he was going to do to live up to his reputation. But it had to be goooood. (Note the O’s.)

5. What inspired to write the Valerie Dearborn books and how many books are planned?

I love vampires! And I’d hit a point where there was nothing left to read and I couldn’t find what I wanted to read. So I wrote it!

6. What is your least favorite type of character to write and favorite type of character to write?

I really like writing my villains. My main villain in Love is Darkness, Marion, she just cracked me up. She had the best lines. Like, “How do you entertain a man whose Kama Sutra is made up of wood cuts?” I thought that was hysterical! Which sounds odd cause I wrote it, but I tell you, it wasn’t me, it was her. She writes herself. Least favorite? Ugh. The Fey King. That man is an enigma to one and all. He just about killed me. Sometimes Lucas was no picnic, either.

7. Fun Question: Describe yourself in three words.

That’s not fun! I can’t do just three words. I’m a writer for crying out loud! I need sentences! Uhm…mom…tv obsessed…sarcastic. Sad but true.

8. In your Bio, you used to live in England, where was some of your favorite places to go there? What would you tell someone that wants to visit there to visit first on their trip?

Love is Darkness really goes into my time there. My characters in American his studies abroad, which is what I did. She lives in the same dorms that I didn’t goes to the same restaurants. A lot of her experiences were my own. I would say go to a lot of the museums. I especially like the Museum of London, it has a lot of things from the river Thames which have been fished out over the centuries and I think that’s really cool. Contrary to what people think, the food in England is really good. If in doubt, go for the soup. Unless you’re at a Pret a Manger don’t get a sandwich (and never get a hamburger or Mexican food) the English don’t understand those things. Everything else is awesome!

9. What is up next for Caroline Hanson?

My next book will be a time travel. It’s called A Lady Out of Time. She’s a soldier and she goes back to Victorian England. She’s no naïve, virginal debutante, but has a modern sensibility. I read a lot of historicals. I knew I would write one, but I couldn’t bring myself to write the typical regency heroine.

10. Do you have anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Keep on reading and if you find anything amazing, tell me about it! I’m always on the lookout for a good book too!

Description:
Valerie Dearborn wants a cotton candy life, but it’s more like a puffer fish: pointy, unusual, and—if not prepared exactly right—deadly.
In London for graduate school, Val knows she's finally free. Her father and ex-almost-boyfriend are back in California and she's out of the Vampire hunting biz for good. Or is she?
She draws the attention of Lucas, a 1600 year old Vampire, and King to his kind. He’s also wicked hot. As golden as Lucifer, and just as tempting, he makes Valerie an offer she can't refuse— help him find out if the Others (Empaths, Fey and Werewolves) still exist or he'll stop protecting those she loves.
Lucas tells her that Empaths were a Vampire’s biggest weakness before going extinct hundreds of years ago. While the Fey or a Werewolf might kill a Vampire, an Empath could enslave them, seducing or harming with emotions at will. The one detail he leaves out? Valerie is an Empath.
And after 1600 years of an emotionless existence, Lucas wants Valerie like a recovering alcoholic wants a wine cooler.
Can she keep those she loves alive, stop Lucas from munching on her, survive a fanged revolution and still find a way to have that boring, normal life she’s always wanted? Probably not, but boy is she gonna try!
This is a full length novel and contains adult content.
Caroline Hanson grew up in California and moved to London in order to dance and go to pubs. Adulthood ensued and she returned to California, bringing back her very own Englishman.
After becoming an attorney she had two children and now tries to parent, read, write and play tennis. She's heard rumors that other mothers clean and cook but is trying valiantly to keep those rumors from reaching her family.
Caroline grew up listening to Brit pop and reading about vampires. As a teenager her favorite authors were Anne Rice and Jude Deveraux. Now she loves Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Laura Kinsale, Lisa Kleypas, Loretta Chase, Nalini Singh and JR Ward--that's the short list.
In terms of TV she's big into Game of Thrones, anything by Mr. Whedon, Ms. Plec or Ms. Rhimes because she likes a love story-- the more messed up and disastrous the better!
Her books have been on various Bestseller lists and she loves to hear from fans so long as they understand that Lucas is not real, she can't hook them up, and he CERTAINLY isn't chained to her bed.
