Guest Post & Giveaway with Jeanette Murray
Welcome to our virtual tour stop of Jeanette Murray's The Office and the Secret brought to you by Sourcebooks.
Why I Love Writing
About Marines In Romance Novels
Sounds like I’m about to stand up and give an oral report,
right? Ahem. (Picture a nine year old Jeanette standing up, holding a
much-smudged piece of paper.)
Because Marines are
freaking hot.
Okay, so my third grade teacher would have failed me on that
one. But facts are facts, right? Heroes in romance novels are designed to
inspire something inside us…usually something of a visceral nature. Heroes are
often firefighters, cops, PIs, professional athletes…or ex-versions of the
same.
And I just happen to have a serious yen for the military
man. I mean, I married one, so that’s pretty handy, right? Research at my
fingertips. But more than that, I just truly believe in the authenticity of the
Good Guy Marine. I’ve known enough through my years of bouncing to bases,
meeting friends’ husbands, meeting friends of my husband, co-workers, and just
people you bump into in town. They are, overall, a fantastic group of
individuals.
It’s hard to deny the physical aspect…Marines keep in shape.
That’s just a given. And I’ve always liked a clean-cut man. It’s just a
personal preference, I suppose you could say. But there’s just something a
little extra that gets packed into the punch the uniform gives you visually.
You look at a guy standing there in a polo and khakis, and he’s good looking.
But you slip him into cammies and boots? BOOM.
He’s triple-glance worthy.
But their commitment to their service is legendary. They’re
not called “the few, the proud” for nothing, let me assure you.
So I love writing Marines because when you open that book,
you know what you’re walking into. You’re getting a man dedicated to a cause
that’s bigger than him, who looks mouth-watering in a uniform and is prepared
to sweep a woman off her feet…and let her sweep him off his boots a time or two
as well.

Kat (or Jeanette!) spends her days surrounded by hunky alpha men…at least in her imagination. In real life, she’s a wife and a mother, keeping tabs on her husband of seven years, her four year old daughter (often called Tot) and the family dog, a lovable (but completely stupid) Goldendoodle named Clyde. Hang around long enough and you’re guaranteed to hear at least one or two stories about these three.
One Lucky winner will win a paperback copy of The Officer and the Secret by Jeanette Murray from the publisher.

Tracey Cooper-Posey's "Kiss Across Chains" Blog Tour (Guest Post/Spotlight) + Giveaway
Welcome to our virtual tour stop of Tracey Cooper-Posey's Kiss Across Chains Blog Tour brought to you by Book Monster Promotions.
Why Vampires and Ménage and
Time Travel?
I have acquired a reputation as a genre masher. Name the sub-genre and it’s probably in there
somewhere. I have a series that is
vampire time travel MMF ménage futuristic paranormal romantic suspense, for
example.
The Kiss Across Time series isn’t quite so extreme, although it
has a few monikers of its own: vampire time
travel MMF ménage paranormal romance series.
I’ve been asked why the mash up?
The easy answer is “because.”
Because it’s fun. Because I
pressed buttons and that’s what came out.
Because I thought I’d see what happened when I stirred. Because no one else is doing it.
Because.
How I got to writing them is a bit of history. I used to avoid paranormal like the
plague. I didn’t want to jump on the
band wagon because I thought it would look like I was exploiting the popularity
of the genre (I would have been). At the
time I genuinely didn’t like paranormal.
Confession: I didn’t enjoy Interview
With The Vampire in either book or movie form. I found the movie
self-conscious and Tom Cruise irritating (and short). Brad Pitt was pretty, though. Antonia Banderas was the one great moment in
the movie, but I may be biased.
I never did get into Buffy,
etc.
I was writing for Ellora’s Cave at the time, and they invited
me to write for an anthology they were putting together with two of their top
authors. I jumped at the chance – I was
a nobody author. Then the two authors
announced that the anthology was going to be paranormal.
Oh, crap.
I’d already signed the contract, so there wasn’t much I could
do about it but dive in and write the story I’d committed myself to. Besides, I would be appearing with the two
BIG authors. Pretty hard to pass up.
So I wrote what would end up being Solstice Surrender. I made
my heroine in the story a complete skeptic, just like me, and she fought and
denied throughout most of the story (just like I would). It was therapeutic and educational and an
interesting thing happened: I enjoyed
myself.
I figured that one story was an aberration. I didn’t want to upset my established readers
by suddenly switching to the new, sexy genre.
So I continued to write romantic suspense.
Then I was ungraciously dumped from my day job one day, without
warning. I was given a large parting
cheque – large enough to last for a while if we were careful, but the job
market was terrible right then, so I
started cranking out novels with a vengeance.
Not only that, I asked Ellora’s Cave what was hot, what was selling the
best. Yeah, I went for the money.
The Executive Director for EC asked if I could write MMF urban
fantasy as they didn’t have anyone doing that.
“Sure!” I said. I’d never read a)
urban fantasy or b) MMF ménage. I rolled
into a four week marathon reading/research and writing cram session and
produced at the end of it a three-novella MMF urban fantasy series that EC
promptly published.
And I learned something else:
I love MMF mĂ©nage…and vampires. My sort of vampires, anyway. They’re not angst-filled, ennui-anchored sad sacks. They walk in daylight, they fight hard for
what they want and believe in and they love. With gusto.
About ten years ago, the guts dropped out of the historical
romance market. Or at least, that’s what
New York publishers told us and promptly stopped buying historical
romances. All the mid-list historical
romance authors abruptly had to find new genres or new careers, including me,
as I had just released my first historical romance with a legacy
publisher. I never published another
historical romance again.
But I love and adore history and historical anything.
It didn’t take long for me to couple up in my head the idea of
very long lived vampires + history.
Oh, mama! Talk about a light bulb going off!
Vampires + MMF ménage + history.
Except history wouldn’t work, I was told. So, pseudo history…time travel!!! Even better!
There were all the complications that could happen from screwing with
time, time jumps gone wrong…writer’s nirvana, in other words!
And that’s where I came up with the idea of vampires + MMF
mĂ©nage + time travel. It’s an explosive
combination, too. Try it and see.

Milly Taiden's "Wolf Fever" Blog Tour (Guest Post/Spotlight) + Giveaways
Welcome to our virtual tour stop of Milly Taiden's Wolf Fever Blog Tour brought to you by The Smexy Fab4.
Story? What Story?
Oh the joys of being a writer. Sometimes we sit there writing absolute nonsense before we come up with a plot that works. And even then it could just be a poorly constructed idea. There have been times I start writing and stop after a few thousand words because I can't figure out where the story is going. So I leave it and come back later on. I think a lot of authors forget to return later on to a story. They end up with a bunch of short beginnings and that's it. A story won't always come to us as a whole in one shot. Heck at times I wake up in the middle of the night with a plot fully worked out. Now that's awesome. Doesn't always happen though. But you don't stop even if you're rewriting useless stuff. Writing the things clogging your imagination will help keep the artistic juices flowing. Sometimes we write a lot of stuff that makes no sense but eventually we find that one line we need to make the plot work. And sometimes, we leave all that other stuff we thought was nonsense alone and later on it creates a brand new story we can use to give our readers something new to love. So while we all have those this story sucks moments, eventually it works out. Though eventually may be a while, don’t give up.
Wolf Fever
(Alpha Project #1)
by Milly Taiden
Publishing Date: 6/19/13
Genre: Paranormal Erotic Romance
Description:
When Raine Bowe volunteers for a sleep study for the extra cash, she didn't expect to wake in a lab or to be victimized by a mad scientist. She escapes with one objective--to find someone strong enough to wage war with the evil growing inside her.
Ryder Storm is a man with a reputation--the bad boy of his own universe. He doesn't take prisoners, won't give into a sweet smile, and doesn't cut his pack an inch of slack. He knows the desperate woman in his bar is his the moment he lays eyes on her. He'll give her anything she wants, except the one thing she's begging for. Death.
Raine enlists Ryder’s help to unravel the mystery surrounding the hours she lost in the lab and to help tame the beast inside her. In their search for answers, the road will lead them to a twisted experiment involving shifters, humans, and the creation of the ultimate Alpha. He's ready for the adventure and she's ready for her answers. Neither are ready for the lust that calls down from the mating moon. But a wolf knows its mate, and an alpha will not stop until he or she gets what they want.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Run!The loud hammering of Raine’s heart drowned out the single word bouncing around her mind—and the dogs barking at her back. Their angry growls faded the faster she ran. A little further. Just a little more, and she’d be home free.
Trees swooshed past her with every step she took away from the small isolated facility. She ignored the hospital gown swinging against her legs and the blood dripping down her arms from the torn IVs. Barefoot, the rocks bit into the soles of her feet. None of that mattered. She had to survive. Her life depended on getting as far away from that place as possible.
Inhaling the comforting scent of mud, trees, and the wild, she barely heard the barking over the breeze rustling through the willows with each step she put between them. At any other time, she’d have dissected her reaction to the forest. Not now. And she didn’t stop. No way was she getting captured again without a fight.
Air beat in and out of her lungs in tandem with the pounding of her feet on the rocky ground. Moonlight filtered through the branches overhead, highlighting her path. Her hair caught on the tree limbs, snatching at the loose strands. Some of the hanging vines prodded her arms and stabbed her sides. Her breath hitched, and she missed a step, lurching forward. Something inside her tightened. Her arms swayed and her core muscles flexed. Before she face planted, everything balanced out. She blinked. More scared now than she’d ever been in her life. Something controlled her body and it had reflexes far superior to a normal human.
Moisture gathered in her eyes, blurring her vision. She blinked it away. Panic would only get her caught.
Raine glanced at the moon. It had shifted twice—now in front of her, rather than behind. She stilled. The trees rustled with the wind. An owl hooted. But she still didn’t hear the annoying bay of the dogs.
Ragged breaths beat hard in her ears. A horn’s blare sounded in the distance. Fear and excitement gave her a burst of energy. Cars meant help. She urged her body faster.
Street lights peeked through the trees. Air panted out of her chest. A second car honked, speeding past another. She was almost there. So close. Thank god. She was going to make it.
Slowing down at the edge of a hill, she darted glances around the now quiet street. No people milled about or walked around. Nothing. A big store, one she recognized from the one time she’d gotten lost in the shadier side of town, sat a block to her right. The sudden quiet made sense now. Nothing good happened this far south of Tempting Eats. It was known as the dead side. The thought alone gave her chills. Women went missing…all the time. That had been enough to keep her uptown in suburbia-peace-nation.
She glanced around, searching for anyone who might be waiting for her or even any of the dangerous men her neighbors said roamed the streets, but there was nothing, not a single being. Her feet hit the pavement in a rush. Once across the street, she hid inside a dark alley. The stench of rotting food and piss coated the air with a thick blanket of disease and chaos. Her throat convulsed, and the acidic taste of bile hit the back of her tongue.
Retreating, she took several steps toward the end of the street to a small motel. Its yellow, neon Vacancy sign blinked on and off with a buzz. A man’s yell pushed her to slink into the dark. The sound came from the shadows in front of the motel.

Eleri Stone's "Witch Bound" Blog Tour (Guest Post/Spotlight) + Giveaway
Welcome to our virtual tour stop of Eleri Stone's Witch Bound Blog Tour brought to you by Book Monster Promotions.
Ten things that make
for a strong heroine
Raquel is the heroine of Witch
Bound. She’s one of the strongest heroines that I’ve written and not just because
she’s an incredibly powerful witch. Here are a few of the reasons why:
1. She doesn’t let fear stop her. The stakes are big in Witch Bound. Raquel is a powerful witch
even though she’s having performance issues at the beginning of the story.
She’s going up against a demon who’s set on destroying her new clan. She’s
scared but she doesn’t run away from anything.
2. She always tries to do what she considers the right
thing. Her parents made a contract before she was born that she would marry
Christian, a huntsman from clan Ragnarok. She’s been raised to believe in clan,
magic and the gods. She believes that marrying Christian is the right thing to
do and she really tries hard to make it work.
3. She learns from her mistakes. No doubt about it, Raquel screws
up big during the course of the story, more than once, and in one truly
spectacular way. But she learns from her mistakes and tries to fix them.
4. She’s aware of her value. She’s something of a magical
prodigy and makes some huge leaps under pressure because it’s very clear to her
what has to be done. While that’s seen as pride and recklessness by some
people, she does do her best not to step on toes when she can avoid it.
5. She’s honest. She’s honest with herself and with the
people around her…even when it hurts.
6. She’s a good daughter and sister. Family is really
important to her. She does her best to be a good daughter and sister. But she
won’t betray herself to do what’s expected of her.
7. She’s a good friend too and she respects the friendships
of others. She sees that Fen and Christian are really close and she values
that. She’s engaged to Christian but in love with Fen. The only thing that
prevents that from turning into a really angsty love triangle is that they all
do care about one another and want things to work out for the best.
8. She recognizes that she knows what’s best for herself.
Raquel has a lot of expectations placed on her…to be not just a good witch but
the best witch Midgard has ever seen, to enter into an arranged marriage with a
man she’s never met, to protect her new clan. She’s willing to compromise on
some things but not on others. She knows what’s important to her.
9. She loves with her whole heart. This is a bad thing when
your parents arrange a marriage for you and it turns out you don’t fall for the
groom. But it’s a good thing when the person you do fall in love with requires
a total lifetime commitment from you.
10. She goes after what she wants. Sometimes this is seen as
selfishness particularly in a woman but it takes a lot of guts to go after what
you really want especially when there are a lot of obstacles in your way.
Raquel takes risks, loves hard and goes after what she
wants. I think there were times when she absolutely terrified the hero, Fen,
and he doesn’t scare easy. In the end though, who can resist a strong woman?
About the Book:
Raquel Lindgren knows what her future holds. An arranged
marriage. A new home in Ragnarok, Iowa, with another clan of refugees from
Asgard. She should be happy. But there’s a mental block preventing her from
tapping in to her true abilities as a witch. And she’s more attracted to the
best man than she is to the groom…
Fen can’t believe he’s falling for his best friend’s future
wife. As a hound, a wolf shifter, his duty lies with the pack. He’s seen too
many hounds destroyed by love, and he’s sworn never to take a mate, never to
have children of his own. He can’t deny his desire for Raquel, but she deserves
more than he can offer her.
Raquel’s been raised to trust in magic, her clan and her
destiny. But when a vengeful demon threatens to break out of Asgard and destroy
the clan, Raquel learns she must trust in love if she is to take the future
into her own hands.
