Shelf Candy ( #7 )

Shelf Candy hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews. Every Saturday, bloggers choose a book whose cover really catches their eye.
Who doesn't judge a book by it's cover?
FranJessca's Pick
Title: Darkest Mercy
Author: Melissa Marr
Designer: Unknown
I just love this cover.  The covers definitely fit the mood of the books.  That is why I really need to finish Radiant Shadows so I can read this one.  I love the colors of this book and how the flower is the main focus.  Being a Photographer, I love taking photos of focusing on one object and blurring out the background.  (called depth of field)  And the photographer who did this photo...did it perfectly.  The purpose is to have the flower the main focus and then draw in to the rest of the photo.  I also love the glittler/glow of the book cover and the girl in the background, which I want to find out who is.  =)

Anna's Pick
Title: The Host
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Designer: Indigo Design

So today I got to see the teaser trailer for the Host movie, out next year, and it made me think of when I bought and read this book. I had just finished reading the Twilight books and I admit I was still in my 'OMG Twilight is awesome' mode. Not that I don't like Twilight now but it's not the same anymore. I was shopping for a new book to read and I didn't know about the Host so as soon as I spotted the cover I didn't immediately connect it to Stephenie Meyer, I just remember thinking "Oooooh, eerie." And then I noticed the authors name and proceeded to freak out. But it all started with this amazing cover. It's creepy and beautiful all at the same time and after reading the book I know it's the perfect cover for it. And now, after having read it many times and having seen the teaser for the movie, I'm excited about it all over again. I can only hope she does as an amazing job as on this book, with the two books that are to follow, The Soul and The Seeker. This is still and probably always will be one of my very favorite books I've ever read. :)

Both great covers and so very different from one another. Darkest Mercy is stunning. I love the photo that focuses on the flower, the overlay and the lettering. Great picks.

These are really BEAUTIFUL covers!! That flower on the cover of "Darkest Mercy" is so gorgeous! FranJessca, I totally agree with the idea of focusing on one object, and blurring out the background. It's quite effective! I love everything about this cover -- the composition, the colors, the font, and, of course, the scrollowork! It all comes together so well!

As for Anna's pick, it, too, is beautiful, but in an entirely different way. The composition is totally striking, and that eye...it's stunning! However, this cover is much too eerie for my taste, in spite of its beauty. The first time I saw it in a bookstore, I had to look away. I just couldn't stand looking at that eye for very long... I do think it's a very effective cover, but just...not for me... I love Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga, and have yet to red "The Host". Maybe I'd tackle it, if I just could get past that eye... Lol.

Great choices this week!! : )

That's a cool cover! Yeah, while reading, I thought Twilight was awesome too, I don't even know why. I had requested this book - The Host - in my library this week. Maybe I would get it. Great choices!

Great choice with the Wicked Lovely series - I actually love all of those covers - the text treatments, the color scheme, the photos...beautiful covers.

Darkest Mercy is great! It is kind of moody even though the flower is so beautiful and colorful.

I haven't read either of these books. The Host is definitely an intriguing cover.
