Description:
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever. Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years. What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds. In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves. Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card? From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
What a BOOK!! I had a hard time putting this book down. This book has ended up being in my Top Ten books I've ever read. I think I'll put it at #2 in my list. I can't put it at #1 though since Anne Rice's "The Mummy" still holds that. While reading this book, you'll be on the edge of your seat. Karen Marie Moning even throws you off several times in this book.
I ended up getting pissed in some parts, but that's a good thing, not a bad thing. I won't summarized the book for you..because that would take too long. What's my favorite parts in the book...well let's just say I finally found out what Barrons is. Hell Yes!!! And even after finding out what he is..I still love the Man. The sex in this book was even intense. All I can say is Mackayla is one lucky woman. Another part in the book that was my favorite was finding out the truth at the end about the book, Mac and get this even, V'Lane. I wasn't even expecting that. Oh...and the big kicker is when the UnSeelie King made an appearance. Yes...I want to find out more about him hopefully soon.
What pissed me off in the book, but in a good way, was that Mac found out who actually killed her sister and I was upset to find out who it was. I actually cried during that part. Poor Mac! I could go on and on about what I loved about this book and why I just had a hard time putting it down...but really here is what I want to say to everyone who hasn't read this book or the series...Why haven't you? You are regretting it, if you haven't. I chose to put my other TBR books on hold to read this series and I definitely don't regret it for a moment. Now I have to play catchup with my books at home, my library books and my to-review lists, but that's okay. Now I have plenty of time to play catchup until Karen Marie Moning writes her first book for the spin-off to the Fever series...which will be more about Dani O'Malley. Karen Marie Moning, I look forward to the next books in the series after the spin-off series. Please continue writing the way you do and you will always have a fan reading and obsessing over your books. I have the Fever! =)

(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
First and foremost let me just say, what I a cliffhanger. Geez...Karen Marie Moning...you definitely know how to make a woman pull out her hair when it comes to a book and this book did just that. My thoughts on the beginning of the book, yummy, sexy, Mackayla is one lucky woman. My thoughts on the middle of the book, Wow, how in the heck did Mackayla have powers like that now. My thoughts on the ending of the book...un-friggin'-believable. Really? Now I have to wait to read the next book because my line of books I'm currently reading are taking precedence, especially since their ARC's. EEEEKKKK!!! I could just scream over "Dreamfever".
Another thing that had me upset, on the edge of my seat was what the heck is the Lord Master after. That evil villian needs to get his story straight. He is really pissing me off. Then to find out something else about him at the end of the book about Mackayla. I could kick his ass for Mackayla. How dare him?
Barrons...the subject...that I've been wondering since the first book. Karen will you ever reveal what Barrons is. I did like the scenes with Mackayla and him. It's about friggin' time. That man has stolen my heart even though I still don't know if he's good or evil. Karen definitely knows how to write her Men.
Mackayla...her character has gotten stronger in this book and I was so happy about it. She definitely is out for revenge now on what was done to her in this book. I'm ROOTING for you MAC!! Don't you dare give up!! I'm really looking forward to the next book not only because of the cliffhanger from this book....but I want to know what happens with all the characters.
Thank you Karen for writing this series. You definitely take the fairy world to whole different level and I love it!!!

(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
Let me get this out of my system first:
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
What a freaking ending to a book! Really, Karen, you had to leave a cliffhanger like that? That was GREAT!!! I was definitely not expecting that ending at all. You definitely had me on the edge of my seat through the book and I was smiling at certain parts and at the ending I think I was kind of giggling. Poor Mac is going through hell at the end and she has given in to temptation. I don't think I could handle it either.
Let me also say:
WTF is BARRONS!!!??? Damn...are we ever going to find out if he's Fae, supernatural or human? He's definitely not human. He's still Yummy though and I really want some scenes between him and Mac. I think he's fallen for her, but is fighting it.
V'Lane...you seriously are one wicked Seelie Fae. I'm still wondering why V'Lane and Barrons are so against each other. I think they are both fighting for Mac's attention still. Jealousy...can be a evil thing.
Mackayla also learns the truth about the Sinsar Dubh book which happens to be the biggest mishap of all time...because the loss of the book was caused by her own kind who was supposed to be guarding it. Now it's Mac's job to find out how it came out of their reaches. This book leaves you wondering what the heck is going to happen next. Hell has come to Dublin and poor Mac is in smack in the middle of it. There was no avoiding what was happening to Dublin and the World in this book and I think Mackayla knew that. She just needed to survive.
I won't spoil the book to anyone who hasn't read it...but if you haven't read it you need to read it. I'm looking forward to reading "Dreamfever" next. It better tell me what the heck Barrons is. That is one thing that must be answered already. He's one Sexy Man or Thing...that I must know more about. =) Mackayla is one lucky gal...well...at the end of this book...she's not. Poor thing...I hope she can figure out how to get out of the situation she got herself in.

(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
First off...WTF is Jericho Barrons!!!?? I'm still confused on what or who he is. The book isn't really explaining either. Ugh! Am I ever going to know how he gets his sexiness or strength from. Geez! He is absolutely confusing. I love him though and wish I could go in the book to see him in person.
This book had my attention a little bit more than the first and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Mackayla is put through hell in this book. First she is attacked by the Shadows because of the jealousy that spawns between her and Jerricho's lover or whatever she is that is working in his bookstore.
Then she is being followed or watched by a unknown source. She also wants to know where Barrons is most of the day and goes snooping in his garage and finds out something is living underneath his garage.
She then has V'Lane bugging her still. She then finds out towards the end of the book her enemy that she thought was dead, is still alive and wants her to live just like him and die just like him.
Ewww...and let me tell you I was not very fond with what Mackayla had to do to heal herself in the book. Yuck!!! Just reading the description was making me queezy. Poor Barrons has to save her several times and I still wonder what his deal is with Mackayla. Does he have strong feelings for her or what? Maybe the next book will explain more...maybe they'll be something between them. I'm getting frustrated with Barrons...but I still love him. LOL
Mackayla is still looking for the Man/Creature that killed her sister and comes face to face with him again at the end...and the weird thing is, is that the Lord Master is scared of Barrons. What the heck is he?
Oh well...onto FaeFever and maybe it will explain more. I love this fairy world though and I look forward to exploring it more. =)

Darkfever
(Fever #1)
Publishing Date: 10/31/06
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Genre: Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy
Source: Library Book
Buy: Amazon or Barnes and Noble
Description:
MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands…

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
I'm really not used to reading a book like Darkfever, but I'm glad I listened to some of my book reading buddies. I finally made time to start reading the series and I'm super happy I did. First off let me just say....What the heck is BARRONS?!! That man/thing has to be something special in this series...otherwise why is he so strong, smart and sexy. Damn! I'm really curious to find out what he is.
I love MacKayla. She is become one of my favorite female characters. I look forward to finding out how she turns up in the next books. For a girl who lost her sister...she is definitely one determined sister to find out who murdered her and also find out the mysteries in Ireland about the Fairies.
I love Karen Marie Moning's writing style and how she betrays Seelies and Unseelies. It's nothing like the other fairy stories I've read, except maybe a little bit more intense then Wicked Lovely.
I also love the character V'Lane. He sounds really Yummy! Who wouldn't want a Fairy to do that to you? =) I look forward to getting to know him better also.
I won't get into the storyline since the description pretty much says it all.
All I know is I look forward to reading the next book. I thank my reading buddies again for suggesting this series. =)
