"It's Just Sext" by Felice Fox (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Heroes and Muses

Have you ever read a book and wished the hero was someone real? A man you could go out, actually find, and make yours?

Yup. That’s what I thought. Me too. Many times. If Lorelei James told me Bennett McKay was based on a man she knew, I would move to Wyoming. Tomorrow. Likewise Sylvia Day and her Gideon Cross.

So who are these heroes? Are they real? I can only speak for my own work. I spin stories from kernels of truth, and heroes from dreamy men I have met. My muses have always been people I’ve encountered personally, but do not know well.

While writing my first novel, Take Me for Longing, I had a particular real life musician in mind for the hero, Nic Taylor. The book had become a bestseller and around the same time, his band played a gig in Los Angeles. I went to the show and gave him a copy. I told him he had inspired the hero of my steamy romance novel.

He said: “You’re gonna make me blush.” I replied: “Wait ‘til you read page 69.” (I know, I know. I’m embarrassed I said it. But the first sex scene does occur at that exact page number, completely by coincidence.) We talked for a while and I began to realize how different this man and Nic really were. Until that moment I had not been sure how much his character and personality had been created by my own imagination. In the process of writing the story, Nic became his own man. The person standing in front of me was a total hottie, but he wasn’t Nic.

I like to have a particular man in mind when writing, but while the image I start with might be a real person, the character he becomes on the page is someone different. He is transformed by his experiences in the story as much as any of us would be in real life.

Even so, a part of me always wants to believe the hero is out there somewhere, just waiting for me… Or you.

It's Just Sext
(The Right Kind of Wrong #1)
Publishing Date: 11/26/12

She swore it was ‘just sext’, and nothing more…

Lauren has been texting for months with a man she met online, carefully editing the details of her life, sending him only the best of herself—the hottest pictures, the highlights of her day, and her most hard core sexual fantasies. A merchant marine, he traveled the world, so it was safe enough. They would never actually meet, so why not? Her self-esteem could use a little boost.

Marc’s “no talking, only texting” rule was strictly enforced when it came to the sexy thing he met online. She was his ultimate fantasy girl and he wanted to keep it that way. But when his ship is scheduled to dock in a port near her home, he lays it all on the line for the chance at a weekend of hot sex—and maybe something more.

When they finally meet, the heat that smoldered for months feels a lot like love. Forced to tease reality from fantasy, months of texting foreplay ignites into wildfire—something hotter, deeper and sweeter than they had ever imagined.

Perfect Sext
(The Right Kind of Wrong #2)
Publishing Date: 3/1/13

Marc was her naughty little wish come true. His new assignment to a ship working out of the port of Long Beach will have him sailing back to Lauren a few weekends a month. It's just enough time to act out the intensely erotic texts they share while he's at sea, but will it be enough to build something real? Alone in their seaside hotel room, Marc knows how to bring out the dirty girl in Lauren, though it's her trust he wants most. She will do almost anything with him--anything but bring him home.

Warning: This short story includes more toe-curling dirty talk, and may lead to sex on a Ferris Wheel.

Excerpt from “It’s Just Sext” by Felice Fox

Lauren sat down on a corner of the bed, switched the television on, then off again. She could sense his approach, somewhere in the dark, making his way to her from across the country, across the city, to this hotel, this room, this space, after months of pure, ridiculous, long-distance lusting over, of all things, text messaging.
She chose to meet him at a hotel, not let him into her home, her perfectly meted out personal space. She was crazy to let him in at all, but she didn’t know how to protect herself at this point. From a distance, she could, sure. He was just some guy sending her love notes, photos and videos, and who mysteriously refused to actually speak to her over the phone. But what would she do when he reached her door? Her limbs shook and she had to move. She couldn’t wait in the hotel room for him. Maybe if she met him in the lobby or on the street she could maintain some distance, a safe space between them for a little while longer. Give her time to think, settle into the idea of him being...real. Plus, from the lobby she could still run.
This had been her problem all along. She could not stay still when it came to him. He did something to her—his eyes, his lips, the way he touched himself and showed her everything without holding back. They all conspired to plough her under—make her lose her footing and stumble onto her own hand, rubbing almost incessantly to soothe, over and over again, her constant state of arousal. She was like a trained pet—one look at him and she was overheated and begging. Her own sense of propriety kept her from giving in and telling him what she wanted, what she would do to him given the chance. But he knew well enough. That was why he was almost here, after all.
He had sent her photo after naked photo of himself, and each time she found herself wanting a little more. It had been going on for months since they discovered each other’s profiles online. She lived in Santa Monica, and he worked on cruise ships. Marc spent his months circling the globe from one port to the next—though never anywhere near hers. Until now.

It’s Just Sext and the sequel Perfect Sext are available now at Amazon. Hotter than Sext, the final story in the series, will be available April 2013.

Felice attributes her love of romance novels to an early, feverish bout with The Kissing Disease. Take Me for Longing, a current Amazon bestseller, was her fiction debut. Her latest release, It's Just Sext, hit #1 on Amazon's Bestselling Sex Books list in less than three weeks.

Review
I really enjoyed this short sexy story! It's Just Sext is a fast paced erotic story about a woman who met a younger man online and through chatting and texting they have built the start of what may be a lasting relationship! But first Lauren has to get over her hang ups about dating a younger man.

The characters in this story were great! I rarely ever read a story where the woman is older because it's not really a theme I've ever enjoyed but I am so glad I read this one! The relationship between Lauren and Marc is unmistakably HOTT! Put them together and sparks fly off the pages, seriously! These two know how to do it!!! And Laurens friend, I'm a bit annoyed with her because  she can't just be happy for her friend. But then again, Lauren doesn't have to listen to everything the friends says either!

Overall this was a great read! It's super hot and steamy and even though I think it's a bit too short (because it leaves you wanting so much more) I can be happy with it because I know there is more coming in the future for these two! And I hope it all works out!!! I'm so looking forward to the next part of this erotic tale!

Interview

1. What inspired you to become a writer and did you always know you would write?

I joke about having contracted mono (the kissing disease) at 10 years old, but it really was a transformative experience in terms of my creative life. I spent literally a month in bed, daydreaming for hours on end. It didn't occur to me to write any of it down until I read that Simon LeBon (Duran Duran) kept a journal. I thought that was a pretty awesome idea, and since I wanted to have a life that looked and sounded like the Rio album, I started doing it too. (feel free to picture me at my classic 80's formica desk with a portable fan blowing my hair around asSave A Prayer plays in the background)

2. Who were your favorite authors growing up and who are your favorites now? Do you have a favorite book?

When I was a teenager, my aunt (isn't it always the aunt?) gave me Danielle Steele's Wanderlust. Oh, did I love that book! Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer is a favorite, and I've read Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materialsseries several times over. I'm a big fan of time travel romance (I have one scheduled for release later this year called Summerfly). Susan Squires' time travel books are awesome, as are Susanna Kearsley's and a new favorite--Wanted by Amber Scott.

3. When you’re not writing, what are your hobbies/interests?

I like to spend time in the woods, strolling and wandering. I love being out in nature. I read a lot of history, and watch romantic period dramas and comedies, though I'm also totally hooked on Fringe.

4. What does a typical writing day look like for you?

I usually start the day working on marketing and publicity (trying not to get too lost in it) and then settle down to writing. I'll start by looking over my work from the previous session, then check my story map (the basic plot points) and see where I need to head next. I try to do 3,000 words a day, but it doesn't always work out that way!

5. Fun Question: If you could go to any place, where would you go and why?

Kauai. Kauai not? Oh, that was terrible! Who said that? :-) But seriously, my answer really is Kauai. I was there once and it felt like home. I dream of going back.

6. Do you have any pets, if so tell us about them?

Not at the moment. My cat died last year, just after her 21st birthday. (So, obviously, if you are a cat reading this, you may want to petition me to be your cat mama. I'm very good at it.)

7. Where do you get your inspiration for writing specific stories?

I hear or read something that piques my interest, then I kind of turn it on it's head and ask myself "what if..."? For example, with Summerfly I was fascinated to learn that slavery in the north was a matter of gradual emancipation, and that there were slaves north of the Mason Dixon up until the Civil War. I thought "What if a teacher went back to Rhode Island in the early 1800's? And what if she accidentally brought one of her young, black students with her, and had to learn about it the hard way?"

It's often said that you should write what you know, and that is certainly the case with Take Me for Longing. I know about the life of a writer and what motivates them, and I am a huge bluegrass fan, so that came easily too. But beyond that, it has to be something I can feel passionately about as I write.

8. Are there any summer movies you are looking forward to? Which one(s)?

I can't say there are any in particular, so can I mention the mini-series I just watched for the umpteenth time? Lost in Austen. If you like Jane Austen, or time travel, or both, see this.

9. Where did you get the idea to use Bluegrass as a part of this book?

I love bluegrass music and the community around it. It is different than most other genres of music in the way that fans and musicians of every caliber interact. It's not unusual to be able to meet your favorite musicians and get to know then on a personal level, maybe play a tune or two with them at a jam session. There is a great sense of openness and welcoming in bluegrass, and it often brings together people who might not otherwise connect--great fodder for romance novels!

10. Can you tell us anything about any future books in this trilogy? I'm curious who will the characters. :)

Sure! Camille (June's best friend) and J.P. (Nic's brother and banjo player for the Taylors) will be the hero and heroine of the second book, due out in June. J.P. is the strong silent type, with a secret that will unravel Camille's restraint and force her to take a leap of faith.

Thank you so much for having me here today!

Review - "Take Me for Longing" by Felice Fox

Take Me For Longing

Publisher: M. Scribes Press
Release Date: 2/8/12
Genre: Romance

Description
Deciding it’s time to get on with his life after having his career ruined by a romance novel that is rumored to be about him is published, bluegrass star Nic Taylor moves out to California. When he finds himself in the company of none other than June Cricket a real life fan and the author of the romance novel, he must confront her about the mess she’s made of his life. But after spending time together and getting to know one another better, Nic isn’t so sure she did it on purpose. And with a closer look at the whole situation, things aren’t quite how they might seem.

Review
This was a quick fun read, full of love, laughter and some good ol’ bluegrass. I’ve never read a bluegrass romance before and I have to say it was pretty refreshing to have something a little new. Most people aren’t exposed to bluegrass music but I can honestly say I have been. My great grandma and my grandfather listened to it sometimes when I was a kid, so it’s kinda cool to be able to picture it.

I liked the story line and the characters were very entertaining but there were a couple of things that really bothered me about this book. Nic was a major jerk first of all, he didn’t let up one bit on June pretty much through the whole book and it really wasn’t all her fault. His son even thought that. And June, my goodness, does she like to be walked all over and talked down to because she just kept coming right back for more. Maybe it’s just me but that bit of their relationship could have been toned down a bit. The love scenes were ok, not spectacular but good. And I very much enjoyed June and Nic when they were with other people, especially at Junes friend cafe. I guess I just can’t get past the way Nic acted towards her and June just taking it, so that’s why I gave this book 3 Moons and not 4. Still, it was worth reading and I look forward to the next story. 
