Blog Tour: "Enforcer's Redemption" by Carrie Ann Ryan (Guest Post/Giveaway)

The Mean Hero

Not every hero is a knight in shining armor. More often than not, they’re anything but. I for one, love that. I love the fact that these alpha men have cracks in their armor. They’re a little rusty and bruised from a hard life. That draws me in. I know it’s not for everyone, but that’s a big thing for me.
Even with all those bruises, heroes can come in many forms. They can take those experiences and use them to be kind and knowing.
Other times they’re mean.
Yes, today I’m talking about the mean hero. Sometimes those heroes have been through so much, they’re hiding from the world and pushing back so hard they’re an ass. I know this happens.
Adam Jamenson is an ass.
He lost his mate, half his soul—literally—and his unborn child in an attack from a rival Pack and now he’s trying to live his life alone. He’s spent twenty years—a short time for a werewolf—living that way.
But now Fate is back and has given him a new mate, Bay.
Adam doesn’t take her in his arms immediately. *snort* Yeah, not at all. This isn’t a love at first sight story. This is a man who’s hurting so much that he can’t see right in front of him. He’s mean.
I hated him some of the time I wrote him. But honestly, I don’t think I’d have acted any better in his shoes which scares me.
Yes, Adam will get his happy ending.
But most importantly, so will Bay. Because Adam needs his butt kicked. And oh how I do that to him. He’s going to have to tear through those walls of his and find the wolf he could have been if he hadn’t been in pain.
This book tore at me so much that I’m even writing a second story, a novella called Forgiveness about Bay and Adam so that they can actually be happy.
Because they both deserve it. But yes, Adam is a mean hero. He has a lot of crawling on his knees to do, but Bay’s worth it.
What about you? Do you like mean heroes? I’m only a fan of them sometimes. I need my nice heroes too.

Adam Jamenson has suffered through the worst loss known to man. The only reason he lives day-to-day is to ensure the safety of his Pack. As the Enforcer of the Redwood Pack, it is his job to protect all in his path, though he was unable to protect the ones he held dear. The war with the Centrals is heating up and Adam must try and grit through it in order to survive. Though the broken man inside of him may not want to…
Bay Milton is a werewolf with a past. And a secret. She’s met the Redwood’s Enforcer only once, but it left a lasting effect. Now she needs to find him or everything he had thought he lost, may be lost again.
Together, they must struggle and find a way to fight their pasts and present in order to protect their future. But the Centrals have a plan that might make their path one of loss and destruction.

Excerpt:

She murmured a good night, and he walked out, leaving her with her passed-out mate and the sudden urge to take care of him.
“He needs us,” her wolf whimpered.
“Shush, you,” she whispered back. “He’s a grown man who doesn’t need us staring at him like a freaking stalker while he’s sleeping.”
Adam groaned from the bed and tried to take his shirt off, struggling in his current state. She caught a glimpse of tanned flesh and wanted to groan right with him. Damn, she was pregnant and ready to pop. She shouldn’t be thinking dirty thoughts.
Especially not with the man currently trying to strip out of his clothes.
With a sigh, she waddled over to him and placed a hand on his arm, the heat radiating from him shocking her. She’d forgotten how hot his skin was.
“Adam, stop trying to take off your clothes. You’re going to hurt yourself.” Need filled her and she cursed. Her libido was picking a strange time to wake back up.
“Bay,” he grumbled, and she froze.
She loved the sound of her name on his lips. Or rather, her wolf did. The woman desperately wanted not to like it. Damn mating bond.

I'm so glad that I started reading your Redwood series. They are so good and I can't wait to get Vol. 3 when it comes out in January. It's going to be hard not to get Adam's story so maybe I can get lucky and win a copy. Thanks for all the good books you write.

I've had a thing for Gray Characters, which includes mean heroes, for a long time. They're so much more interesting than shiny heroes for me.

Love your books Carrie. I love this series, love the Redwood Pack, and love sexy wolves. I have not been disappointed with any of the books so far. Loved Adam, loved his bitter character. He played a great mean hero. He had a lot of issues from the past and needed to resolve them. I am very excited for the rest of the series and the next book.
thanks for the giveaway.

I loved that Adam finally got a HEA with someone who wasn't intimidated by him. Bay was the perfect mate for him.
