Angel Lawson's "Vigilant" Blog Tour (Guest Post) + Giveaway
Welcome to our virtual tour stop on Angel Lawson's Vigilant Blog Tour brought to you by Book Monster Promotions.
Summer Lovin’
I love
summer. I always have. I have strong memories of my summers as a child and
teen. Swimming and playing all day. Catching lightening bugs at night. Summer
has always represented a sort of opportunity to me, it’s such a vivid time of
year with such strong imagery.
I’m a huge
fan of the “Summer Romance.” In real life and in fiction. I think of summer and
I’m immediately consumed by ideas of warmth and heat. Love and lust. The
extended days, lack of structure and basic rule of bedtime, curfew and regular
meals all seem to disappear. I especially love the pool and mine is a hot mess.
Hunky college-aged life guard roam the deck shirtless and tan. The flirtations
between teens over the diving board and the rowdy volleyball games made for
fun. I love all the skin and the smell of sunscreen, chlorine and sweat. The
horrible tattoos, the ill-fitting bikini’s, never-ending gossip and the cougars
on the prowl.
Summer fun
isn’t limited to the swimming pool. I also love the beach, with its noisy waves
and bright colors. Surfers wearing skin tight wet-suits or low riding trunks.
Skim boarders performing tricks. The intense heat along with the sticky sea
water drying on crispy skin…everything about summer assaults the senses. Images
of Grease conjure in my mind, when Sandy met Danny and everything was right
before everything went terribly wrong and then they ended up with their HEA in
a flying car and slutty pants. By the way, the HEA? Happened in the summer.
See? Summer
is perfect.
This is the time
of year when boys meet girls and women attract men. Sundresses and shorts and
flip-flops and T-shirts all come out of the closet. Picnics and cook-outs give
people the opportunity to meet, allowing for new relationships.
I’ve written
several books about summer and the opportunities that arise this time of year.
Last year during a trip to the beach I was struck and inspired to write my
first New Adult story, Serial Summer,
based a little bit on family history and a lot about location, and even more
about a fictional summer romance combining all of those. I’ve got another
slightly dirty novella written under a different penname that amps up summer
fantasies to another level (message me and I’ll direct you to my super-secret
penname). I’m currently finishing up a new one, another New Adult that allows
me to wallow in college-year daydreams of first loves, second chances and
getting things right.
What are
your favorite summer reads? Pass them along because I’d love something new. In
the meantime I’ll be over here, hiding behind my big glasses absorbing summer.

Description:
Ari Grant spends her days helping the troubled youth of Glory City, and her nights trying to feel something other than the cold numbness that has settled in her bones. For years, she satisfies this urge with trips to the tattoo parlor or late night clubbing, but everything changes when she becomes a victim of an armed robbery.
She manages to escape notice from the gunman, a former client, but only because she’s saved by Glory City’s own Vigilante. A hooded man who has impeccable timing when it comes to those in need.
It seems Ari isn’t the only one trying to save lost souls or looking for a life outside their job. She’s caught the attention of Nick Sanders, a handsome attorney at juvenile court. Solid and steady, he seems the perfect fit, but Ari has developed an obsession with Davis, the mysterious and sexy director of a local fight club that rehabilitates delinquent boys.
Each of these men fight for the less fortunate, but not everyone has altruistic motives. When Ari’s female clients begin to disappear, she can’t figure out who to trust. Soon enough it becomes obvious that while Ari watches over the kids of Glory City, someone else has taken to watching over her.

Review: "Blood Prophecy" by Gabrielle Bisset
Blood Prophecy
(Sons of Navarus #4)
by: Gabrielle Bisset
Publishing Date: 5/11/13
Publisher: Self Published
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: Provided by Author
Description:
I am everything you fear. I am vampire.
As the two Sons chosen to decipher the Prophecy of Idolas, Ramiel and Thane journey to find the key to defeating the Archons. Together with Noele, a born vampire, they confront their fates as they fulfill their duty to their world. Along the way, they'll find love, but death and betrayal lurk in the shadows, threatening everything dear to them.
Descended from the gods and warriors all, each Son's loyalty will be tested. Every action has consequences, and the choices they make now seal their fates. Alliances as old as the vampire world itself are reforged, and the Sons' duty is clear. Stop the Archons. Or die trying.
My Review:
I knew I was warned before I read this book to be prepared for something different...and I definitely should have had the tissues ready...but I did not listen.
After reading Blood Prophecy, I now I have a second favorite son, Thane. He stole my heart in this story. Do not get me wrong, I like Ramiel...but Thane stole a piece of my heart. I am still a big fan of Saint..and this story made me cry for him too.
Oh...Gabrielle...you made me cry several times in this book. I feel for ALL of the Sons of Navarus in this book. This book definitely had some happy moments, but then it had a lot of sad ones.
If there is one thing I adore about Gabrielle is how she can make you feel like you are there with the characters feeling what they feel. I also love how she is very descriptive in details with the locations, the fight scenes, and the sad moments (of course). I now want to travel to Rome, Italy and take a mini-vacation there.
In this book the Sons of Navarus are still trying to figure out the Prophecy and Ramiel and Thane are picked to find a born vampire girl...but when they find her, she's not a little girl. Instead she's grown up and her destiny is a big one. Ramiel ends up falling for the beautiful born vampire named Noele (I LOVE her name).
There is so much going on in this story...and I do not want to spoil this book. Let's just say...if you have read the previous books, you will get some of Vasilije, Sasa, Solene, Kali, Sion, Dante, Terek and even the bad guys in this story. (Grrr...to the bad guys...I am so MAD at one of them...HOW DARE he!!!)
The one part of the story that I did not click with was Vasilije and Sasa. Let's just say Sasa did something unthinkable and I did not know what to believe with Vasilije. I will say this...I feel for Vasilije towards the end. He handled it very well on what happened. I was expecting him to go completely off and crazy, but he handled it better than others assumed. Sasa kind of let me down in this story....and I was unhappy with her decision. I was even peeved with Thane, but he had his reasons and that is why I cannot really hate Thane or Sasa...but she should have listened to Vasilije. I had mixed feelings, but I cannot really hate them. Vasilije is definitely one difficult character to understand because he can been seen to do one thing...but he is actually doing something different.
Then there's my man, Saint. I feel terrible for him and I just want to hold him and hug him to comfort him and tell him it will be okay. =(
I give this book 4.5 moons and highly recommend it to paranormal romance readers and even urban fantasy readers out there.
I do highly recommend if you have not the other books, you need to read those first. Gabrielle has each book start from the other left off. I do not recommend reading out of order in this series. You will want to know each Son for your own. You may like one over the other or you may like every one of them.
I still have my heart for Saint and always will...but I know another Son could end up stealing that title from him. Thane almost did.
The saddest part of the book....oh no...I am not giving that way...let's just say...be prepared to have the tissues on hand. I had to read that one scene over and over again to verify what Gabrielle did. I was in shock.
Gabrielle is one of my favorite indie authors and this book definitely did me in..and I adore her for it. Here's hoping I remember to have the tissues for the next book.

C.J. Ellisson's "Death's Servant" Blog Tour (Interview/Review) + Giveaway
Welcome to our stop on C.J. Ellisson's "Death's Servant" Blog Tour.
1. Describe yourself in three words. Dedicated, hardworking, and driven.
2. Tell us a little bit about Death's Servant and why readers should check it out?
I wrote this book for my existing readers, but it will appeal to new readers as well. It's a prequel book on one of their favorite characters and it explains the 'how' on his involvement with the ancient vampire who runs the V V Inn with her husband. The novella is a great set up for the series without giving anything away on the later stories.
3. What inspired you to write the Prequel to the VV Inn Series?
As an author, we're more aware of the complex, unwritten backgrounds that motivate and drive our characters than our readers are. I've always known why Jon served the married couple (even though it was apparent he would never be a part of their union), what made Rafe seek out Vivian, and what tragedies and triumphs shaped Dria/Vivian to be the ruthless killer she is today. Sharing those tales with my readers has always been in the back of my mind. To find out they wanted to read them felt like a dream come true. Now I just have to write them all!
4. What was the easiest/hardest scene to write in "Death's Servant? (without giving too much away)
The scene where Jon is at his absolute lowest, carrying the woman he cares about in his arms. His emotions were so raw and painful, I worried I wouldn't be able to capture it well.
5. If "Death's Servant" was made into a movie, who do you picture playing each characters part?
LOL! I've always had certain actors in my mind to play the characters, but as the actors age I'm sure so will readers' expectations of whom they picture, too. I see Jensen Ackles as Jon, Daniel Craig as Rafe, and Angie Everhard as Dria/Vivian.
6. How did you come up with the title of the book?
Dria/Vivian has often thought of herself as death. Eventually, everyone she loves dies and she somehow feels she's to blame. Jon is her vampire servant, so it just seemed fitting.
7. Do you ever suffer with writer's block and if you do, how do you deal with it?
I sometimes have difficulty writing, but I'm not so sure I'd call it a block. I have health concerns and family obligations that often keep me from writing. I've never had a desire to write and sat down only to find there were no words. Life can suck the creative juices right out of us, but being a full time writer means you have to suck it up and push through the hard times.
8. Fun Question: If a zombie apocalypse were to happen, what kind of weapon would be your primary choice to kill the zombies?
Hmm… if we go with the assumption that a double tap to the head is enough to keep them down for good, then I'd want a reliable rifle with a huge magazine and lots of boxes of ammo. ;-)
9. Fun Question: If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you must have to survive?
Since the question doesn't say stranded alone, I'd want my husband, an emergency kit with flares, knives, a gun, matches, and medical supplies inside, and a big tackle box filled with lots of gear to catch fish. The rest we'd figure out together ;-)
10. What is up next for C.J. Ellisson?
I've got the next book in my contemporary erotic romance series, A Walk on the Wild Side, coming out in June. Avoiding Mr. Right is Carla and Andy's story and I can hardly wait to share it with my readers! I hope they enjoy the couple's steamy adventures as much as Tony and Heather's from Vanilla on Top.
Death's Servant
(The V V Inn, #0.1)

Publishing Date: 4/13/13
Publisher: RedHot Publishing

Description:
Jonathan Winchester has clashed with his alpha one too many times. After another argument he leaves the Manitoba pack, his only home since the werewolf attack that changed his life. He returns to his home state of Virginia to start a new life free of pack politics. Jon finds work and meets a young waitress, Raine, who appears to be a lone werewolf, too.
As their relationship progresses, Jon’s embroiled in more intrigue than he bargained for and a danger bigger than he can handle. He's running scared until his own alpha tendencies surface, making him unable to leave the pretty werewolf’s problems behind. The young man is desperate to save Raine—even if his efforts may lead him straight to death.
Journey along in this first prequel novel involving the favorite characters from the bestselling V V Inn series. Written at reader demand, this stand-alone story explains how the beloved Jonathan came to serve the deadly redheaded vampire, Dria.
My Review:
I literally read this book within a 2 hour period due to not being able to put it down. The first page alone had me sucked into the story. I usually cannot read books in such a short period due to having my husband and my little girls constantly interrupting me...but when it comes to C.J.'s stories, I end up locking myself away from the world. =)
Death's Servant is the highly anticipated prequel about Jon and how he meets Dria and becomes her servant. Jonathan definitely had his reasons of becoming Dria's servant and Dria definitely is one kick-butt vampire, who I adore!!!
Jon left the pack he has no known since he became a werewolf and now he is back close to where he grew up, but not too close since his parents do not know he is alive. He meets a lone wolf, Raine, and becomes quickly attached to her. Unfortunately, Raine has a secret and now she wants Jon to leave town before it is too late. When Jon finds out what is happening, it is up to him to save Raine and her pack. He meets Dria and asks her for help, but of course she does not make it easy for him.
This story definitely is fast-paced into the world of where Jon came from and how he met the beautiful vampire, Dria, and her husband, Rafe. I loved how C.J. told Jon's background and what happened to him. He definitely was screwed over a lot in the pack he was in. Poor guy! The girl he thought loved him...was definitely a b***h. I loved how Jon dealt with the person who he caught his girlfriend with.
I am so happy that C.J. told Jon's story. I also enjoyed the fact that she mentioned Williamsburg, VA in the story. =) I live about 30 minutes away from it and she also mentions D.C. and the way she described D.C. when Jon was there, it felt like I was actually visiting. (Now I need to make one last visit before I leave VA for good this summer)
The scene where Jon meets Dria and her mate...well...let's just say...you definitely want to read that part. C.J. knows how to write a very steamy scene. =)
If you love C.J.'s VV Inn Series and want to know how Jon came to know Dria and Rafe, then you will definitely want to read this prequel.
I give this prequel 5 full moons and highly recommend it to urban fantasy readers out there.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author's assistant in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and I was not compensated in any way for this review.

ARC Review: "Werewolves be Damned" by Stacey Kennedy
Werewolves Be Damned
(Magic & Mayhem #1)
By: Stacey Kennedy
Publishing Date: 4/15/13
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance
Source: Provided by Publisher
Description:
Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.
Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.
But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.
My Review:
Every time...I swear Stacey knows how to make me fall in love with male characters from the first minute they are introduced. Kyden definitely stole my heart and it even helped on what he was wearing or lack of wearing. He also had a way with the sword. Oh boy...he definitely was my FAVE character in "Werewolves Be Damned". *sigh*
Darn you, Stacey, now I have yet another male character you have written that I wish was real in person and has been added to my hottie list.
"Werewolves Be Damned" is a Urban Fantasy Romance that takes you into the Otherworld where if you see yourself confronted with a Guardian...you might as well be prepared for a butt whooping.
Nexi Jones has found out through a horrific event that she is part witch and part guardian. Now she must train to become a guardian and hopefully get her witch powers later on. Her adopted parents were killed by a werewolf and she is determined to revenge their death. First though, she must prove she can become a guardian and the sexy Kyden will help her with her training.
Of course, Nexi and Kyden are having difficulties on keeping their training to just training and hiding their feelings for each other.
Both Kyden and Nexi must find out why there are more killings in the human world and why otherworld creatures are doing them.
When they do find out who is behind it all, it becomes not only a the Guardians job to find out how to stop the person, but to protect Nexi who maybe the target of it all.
Stacey Kennedy gives you, Nexi, who is one kick-butt female half-breed who can hold her own and she is matched with one of the elite guardians, Kyden who is hard to not look at, especially when he's fighting.
This book is full of action, heartache, and romance that will have you wanting the next installment right away.
I loved the premise of the storyline and had a hard time putting down the book because of it. These were not some otherworld creatures to mess with. Nexi was one female, who I was even scared of at times. She put herself in so many predicaments and did not listen and I think I did not click with her like I wanted to due to her getting herself into those predicaments. I loved me some Kyden though. Oh....if anything would have happened to him, I would have screamed.
Stacey definitely knows how to make your heart stop due to certain events and also make you heat up as well. The sexual tension between Kyden and Nexi made me feel it and in my head I was telling them to jump each others bones already.
I look forward to the next installment and let's hope I get some more Kyden.

Review: "Redemption" by Erica Hayes
Redemption
(The Seven Signs #2)
by: Erica Hayes
Publishing Date: 3/5/13
Publisher: Berkley Sensation
Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance
Source: Provided by Author (Blog Tour)
Description:
Japheth the Tainted is on the hunt for a mysterious demon vampire. But meeting her face-to-face might disarm his warrior spirit—and spark an unquenchable passion with apocalyptic consequences.
As a fallen angel, Japheth is determined to make his way back to heaven by staying pure and slaying hellspawn. With a new scourge of vampires unleashed by a blood-drinking demon, the Prince of Thirst, there’s plenty to be done. But Japheth is after one vampire in particular—the one they call the Angel Slayer.
Rose Harley never wanted to be a vampire, but the Prince of Thirst can turn even the kindest soul into a soldier of hell. Feeling abandoned by God, she stalks the West Village taking revenge on his angels—until she meets her match.
When Japheth and Rose encounter each other, the battle is fierce and charged with desire. But when they discover a common enemy—the Prince of Thirst himself—they form a dangerous alliance that could either cost them their eternal lives, or spark a love more powerful than heaven or hell.
My Review:
"Redemption" picks up from where "Revelation" left off and Erica Hayes gives us two characters who are disgraced due to what they did in their pasts and keep doing in their present.
Japheth, otherwise known as one of the Tainted is trying to redeem himself and by redeeming himself, he hopes to make it back in heaven. For him to do that, he must find himself a demon vampire that is wreaking havoc in Babylon and is known as the Angel Slayer. He also must do what the Archangel Michael wants as well, and the demon vampire can actually help him conquer that mission.
Although, the demon vampire known as Rose Harley has other plans. She never wanted to be a vampire, but it is kind of hard when the Prince of the Vampires makes her be the way she is. She did the unthinkable when she turned and she has never forgiven herself. When she meets Japheth, she cannot help but try to keep her feelings at bay with him. He is much different than other heavenly warriors. Japheth is supposed to kill hellspawn like Rose, but he cannot. He uses her to help him find her master, but he also is trying to convince himself that she can be helped.
In the meantime, the other Tainted are tackling another demon who has a vial and if they do not get it, they will have even more trouble on their hands.
This is a story of two characters who are trying to redeem themselves, but in different ways. They are trying to fight their feelings for each other, but it is kind of hard when they are so much alike. Erica Hayes gives you a world of warrior angels that are protecting Earth from the demons taking over. Although, their job is never easy, especially when some of the warriors believe their boss may be letting the demons run course without being taken care of fast enough.
I had such a better connection with Japheth and Rose in this story than the first characters in the first book. I felt more sympathy for Japheth because what he went through in "Revelation" and this story made me heart him more. He may have some bad qualities because he believed he did, but he redeemed himself in the best way in this book. He fought for what he wanted, even when he thought he was doing wrong. He did not want to give up on Rose. =)
Rose was such a evil character at first, but when her story came out, she broke my heart. The poor girl had did the unthinkable and I believe she definitely needed to be redeemed. She even put Japheth in his place several times, which made me love her more.
The only thing that kept me from giving this book even more moons, was that it started off slow, but when it started picking up, I was turning the pages to find out what happened next.
Oh...the ending is the doozy...because I have no idea what to think about two characters now....Michael and now Gabriel, who plays a minor part in this book. I'm a little confused, but to me that is a good thing.
The very ending had me in shock though. I had my mouth open in shock, literally. Erica I was definitely not expecting that at all.
I definitely look forward to the next book even more. I must find out what happens next. =)
I give this book 4 full moons and highly recommend it to urban fantasy and paranormal readers out there.
"Redemption" is full of action, sexual tension, and darkness that will keep you turning the pages.
Will the warriors win or will the demons takeover the Earth?

I received a complimentary copy of the book as a part of the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.

Description:
Saved by the angel sent to kill them, four half-angel boys are trained and employed as Heaven’s assassins. Jarrid and his nephilim brothers are raised as members of The Eternal Order, and must enforce Heaven’s laws by hunting down those who defy the Directorate.
His only shot at freedom is Ascension, but his employers won’t permit the ancient ritual. Then Jarrid learns a Renegade angel is in Detroit. Such a high-level takedown is the answer to his prayers—all the leverage he needs to Ascend.
For freedom, Jarrid is willing to do anything to lure his elusive enemy out of hiding.
Even use an innocent woman as bait.
News reporter Ionie Gifford has no clue an angel outlaw wants her dead. She agrees to help Jarrid, the enigmatic nephilim with penetrating silver eyes and a worship-worthy body, but only because he accepts her terms. He’s her all-access pass into the city’s supernatural underworld where she hopes to locate her mother’s killer.
Blindsided by Ionie's beauty and tenacity, Jarrid soon finds the eternity-old glacier around his heart thawing. With duty and desire at war within him, he’s forced to make a choice—either save Ionie from the trap he snared and stay chained to Heaven, or allow her to become collateral damage.
Jarrid remained silent, but chaos cranked his mind. The chance
there’s a Renegade in his city was so remote, so improbable. Yet if the elf
spoke true, the tip meant one more score to settle. And one giant step closer
to Ascension.
He turned the idea over in his head. Ascension would only be
granted if he attained something considered more valuable than him remaining
under Heaven’s heel. Would a capture force the ruling angel Directorate to
reward his team?
A fragile thread of hope connected to another, and another, until
his heart and mind grabbed hold. He had to find the Renegade, minus
interference from the angels. But the information was vague at best. One woman
in a city of millions? Where the hell would he start?
“Anything else?”
YuL shook his head. “I swear that’s all I got, man. I didn’t know
who they were talking about, but I know Renegades hold a special place with you
angels.”
“I’m no angel, you piece of shit.” He’d never been considered pure
enough by those pricks to count as anything more than a half-breed. That’s all
the nephilim were to them. Half-angel and half-human. Abominations.
Color drained from the elf’s face. “I was gonna trade the info for
what I owe. I can’t believe they sent an assassin after me.” YuL cupped his
hands together. “Christ, I don’t owe that much. Please don’t kill me, man.
Please.”
He ignored the hysterics and tapped the earpiece concealed by his
hair. “Intel retrieved.”
If the elf’s info was solid, the next few days would be crucial to
tracking the outlaw and snuffing the bastard. A familiar hatred bubbled under
his skin and Jarrid’s grip tightened on the dagger’s hilt. He was here because
of Renegades — the former Watcher angels who’d impregnated human women to
create their half-breed race. Now, he was forced to serve Heaven.
Since his mother’s death.
Since his own imprisonment.
Since the angel sent to kill him spared his life.
The elf scrabbled backwards against the piss-stained wall. “Just
let me go. I won’t tell a soul.”
“By decree of the holy host, YuL of Elven, you have broken a
sacred covenant with Heaven and have been deemed unworthy of forgiveness.”
Jarrid buried the dagger deep into the elf’s heart. Confused
orange eyes stared at the dagger, and then at him as if they tried to memorize
the face of death. Finally, the spark behind those eyes slipped away.
“Your life is forfeit.”
YuL’s Adam’s apple bobbed twice then stilled.
Extracting the blade, Jarrid rose and considered the body slumped
on the wet pavement.
“You can’t fuck with Heaven, pal. It has bigger dicks.” He
shrugged and stood at parade rest, bracing himself for the aftermath of another
completed mission. After two, maybe three breaths, white-hot pain flash-fried
his veins, making his body sway. Then it flambéed his internal organs.
