Review - "Mark of the Bear" by N.J. Walters
Mark of the Bear
(Hades’ Carnival #2)
Author: N.J. Walters
Publisher: Samhain
Publishing
Release Date: 4/16/13
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: Bought (Samhain)
Description
When the devil wants a deal, there's no bowing out
gracefully.
At twenty-nine, Hollywood scream queen Kellsie Morris is
acutely aware the clock is ticking on her career. Luckily, the one big role she
needs to pad her retirement fund has just come through-the story of an
immortal, shape-shifting warrior trapped in a carnival run by the Devil's
minions.
When Kellsie arrives on set, she can't resist climbing
aboard an amazingly realistic carousel bear-and finds herself flung into a
world where the horror is real. As real as the heat radiating off the
half-naked hunk in her arms.
Marko has waited an eternity for the chance to free his
goddess, the Lady of the Beasts, and his fellow warriors from an ancient curse.
But once he lays eyes on Kellsie, he knows to the bottom of his soul that his
purpose is to protect her life.
But in this hellish game, it's the Devil's move. And there's
no predicting when and where the final, brutal stroke will fall-and which lover
will pay the ultimate price.
Warning: This book contains a heroine who's a screamer-in
and out of bed-and a warrior who gives a whole new meaning to
"method." After reading, please use caution when standing up. Your
knees may be weak.
Review
NJ, seriously!?! It had to end like that? :( I am so dying
for the next book to be out now!!! This was another great read! This series is
quickly turning into a favorite for me. It's unique and interesting. The story
just sucks you right in and if you’re like I was, you won’t come back out until
you’ve read the very last page.
Once again I LOVED the two main characters! There’s always
something really special about NJ’s characters that instantly makes me fall in
love with them and I think Kelsie may be my very favorite heroine of hers. I
mean, she’s the freaking scream queen! Very cool! But then again I’m a horror
movie nut, so she’s extra interesting to me. And Marko, well let’s just say
there is something VERY appealing about a big cuddly bear that turns into and
equally big hunky guy! Best of both if you ask me! ;)
I really like the other characters too! It was nice to get
to see Aimee and Roric again. I can't wait to see who is next and I'm kind of more
excited about who the next heroine will be. I mean a graphic novelist and the
scream queen? These hunky shifters know how to pick 'em! ;)
If you enjoy a fast paced romance with hunky shifters, kick
ass heroines and creepy but entertaining villains, this series is for you! You
don’t necessarily need to read these in order but I recommend it because you’ll
get the full story having read both! I’m looking forward to the next book in
this series and pretty much anything else NJ decides to write because her books
are always fantastic!

Review - "Night of the Tiger" by N.J. Walters
Night of the Tiger
(Hades’ Carnival #1)
Author: N.J. Walters
Publisher: Samhain
Publishing
Release Date: 1/15/13
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: Bought (Amazon)
Author’s Website: www.njwalters.com
Description
Aimee Horner lives and breathes her career as a graphic
novel illustrator, but she never expected it would invade her dreams. In recent
months, worsening nightmares have pulled her into the darkest corners of Hell.
On a rare night out with friends at a traveling carnival,
she finds herself strangely drawn to an abandoned carousel adorned with vividly
exotic animals. One steed, a massive white tiger, is a temptation she can’t
resist. The moment she climbs upon him, her world changes forever.
More than five thousand years ago, Roric and his fellow
shapeshifting warriors were imprisoned in their animal forms, a last-ditch
effort by the goddess they served to save them from the horrors of Hell.
With one special woman’s touch, he has a chance at freedom
and redemption—but the clock is ticking. If he is still alive in twenty-four hours,
the spell will be broken, and Hell will have no claim on his soul. The only
hitch is his blazing attraction to Aimee. If only he could trust that she isn’t
merely a distraction sent by Hades—luscious bait to lure him from his mission.
Review
I absolutely loved this book! I knew before reading it that I
would enjoy it but I had no idea how much I until I finally got to read it! I’ve
been a fan of this author for a while now and I really enjoy all that I’ve read
but this is most definitely my favorite!!! The concept is very interesting; I
love the whole idea of these immortal shape-shifters who were made by a
goddess, only to be imprisoned because of Hades wanting to use them in his
fight for power. I love books with aspects of Greek mythology and I have to
say, this is one of my favorites ever! Oh and the crazy carnival theme, with the demons being the ones who are running it, that was pretty creepy! Everything about it is pretty much
awesome!!!
Aimee, the heroine in this story, is a graphic novel
illustrator and a loner so she rarely leaves her house. You’ll find out more
about why she’s a loner when you read the book. Roric, the hero, is an ancient
shape shifting warrior who has been imprisoned in his Tiger shape, between dimensions
and unable to actually be a part of the world but was able to see time pass the
whole time. These two characters fit so well together! Who better to be with a
beautiful tiger shape shifter than someone who can and has drawn him in all of
his magnificence? Aimee is one of my favorite heroines ever! The girl is 100% Bad
Ass! There is one particular part, the first big fight scene actually, when she
really kicks butt! I literally yelled out loud (my husband thought I lost my
mind) because it was that cool! J
And Roric, oh man! If I had to choose one favorite Paranormal
creature/character type that is my very favorite, I would pick tiger shifters!
There’s just something about the idea of a big beautiful cat turning into a big
beautiful man!!! And Roric is definitely that! ;)
This was a fantastic read! The story was great, very well
written, and the characters are some of her best! I loved her descriptions, of
the demons and Hades, of The Lady of the Beasts and the shifters, even Aimee's art work, it really pulls you into the story and helps you see what the characters are seeing and feel
what the characters are feeling! I can not wait for the next book in this
series, I’m so looking forward to seeing where the author takes these wonderful
characters! If you love paranormal romance, read this book! I kid you not, you
will LOVE it!!!

My Review:
I have been waiting forever for this book. Well...not forever, but it felt like that. I absolutely love "The Company of Angels" books by Stephanie Chong. I fell in love with the characters in the first book in "Where Demons Fear to Tread" last year. I just knew I would love this one too.
I remember, the female character, Luciana in the first book and I was excited to read more about her in this book. (I really did not like her in the first book...but she grew on me in this book)
Luciana has fled to Venice, Italy to do her duty of giving the devil his yearly duty. Once in Venice, she tracks down her sacrifice, but ends up running into one of the Company of Angels.
She ends up not making the sacrifice in time thanks to the Angel. In the mean time, she has to find away to make it up to her big boss...but the Angel of course is not making it easy for her.
She even has her past lover...threatening her...so it is not going to be easy for Luciana to make her boss happy again.
Brandon, the angel that interferes with Luciana's plan is trying to capture Luciana for the Company of Angels. She is his assignment...but of course, he finds Luciana to be misunderstood. He feels she could change and he is finding her very irresistible.
Of course...in "The Demoness of Waking Dreams", other characters are brought back from the first book...that I really was excited to read about. Corbin (who was such a jerk in the first book), Julian (who I have a HUGE crush on..yes I know he is fictional...but he stole my heart), and several others that I do not what to name. I'll give away too much.
New characters are introduced as well...who I hope come back in the third book.
My thoughts on The Demoness of Waking Dreams...I loved every minute of it and had a hard time putting down my Kindle. I would read while doing other things. (laundry, etc.) I'm a multi-tasker...I can read as well as take care of things around me. At least I tried to. =)
I loved the storyline for Luciana and Brandon. Luciana has her own story and so does Brandon. Both of their stories broke my heart. I could not believe what actually happened to Brandon at the end. I would be upset as well.
Oh let me not forget that Julian ends up in the story...and of course I find out more about him and what happened between him and Luciana. =)
Luciana and Brandon were perfect for each other. Luciana helped Brandon out with his problems and Brandon helped Luciana. =)
I could go on and on, how much I loved this book...but of course I do not want to spoil this book for anyone.
The ending, I was definitely not expecting. I'm a little interested on what is going to happen in the third book now.
I recommend this book to paranormal romance readers, angel and demon addicts (like myself) and fans of Stephanie Chong. You definitely will be amazed on what happens in this book.
If you read the first book, you will enjoy to read about the previous characters, like I did. =)
My dream is to do a character interview with Julian in the future. *sigh* He definitely is a FAVE of mine.
Let me not to forget to mention that Stephanie Chong has a fan for life.
Countdown to Book 3 is now on. =)

ARC Review - "Wicked Nights" by Gena Showalter (Surprise Giveaway)
Wicked Nights
(Angels of the Dark #1)
by: Gena Showalter
Publishing Date: 6/26/12
Publisher: Harlequin
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: Provided by Author
Buy: Amazon or Barnes & Noble
Description:
From the New York Times bestselling
author who brought you the Lords of the Underworld comes a dark,
seductive new series featuring angels poised on the brink of
destruction....
Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless-and if he isn't careful, he'll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions, at any cost...until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he's never known before.
Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation-or her ultimate damnation?

My Review:
Where do I start with this new series that Gena Showalter has created?
First off, we're inside of Zacharel's head in "Wicked Nights". If you're a huge fan of Gena Showalter's and have read her Lords of the Underworld Series, you know who Zacharel already is.
In the Wicked Nights, we find out Zacharel has been tasked to run the most powerful angel army in the heavens. Of course there's a catch though...the angels he leads are on dangerous ground...they're a danger to themselves and everyone around them. If Zacharel doesn't straighten them out, he may end up losing his wings. He has to prove to his deity that he can be a leader and help train these ruthless Angels. If he doesn't...he's punished for what he does, but also what they do wrong.
We're introduced to Annabelle Miller, a human who was accused of a killing her parents at the age of 18, which she didn't do. Now she's forced to live in the walls of Moffat County Institution where she is being treated. The doctor who is supposed to be treating her, instead is abusing her mentally and physically. She also can see things that normal humans can't see. She has demons tracking her wherever she goes and now they are upon Moffat County Insitution.
Zacharel and his band of Angels are sent to the Moffat County Institution to find out why the demons are attracted to the place and kill them, as long as they aren't humans who are demon-possessed (which they can not kill).
Zacharel comes upon Annabelle and for the moment he meets her, he knows he's in trouble. Zacharel is not meant to save Annabelle...but of course everything in his world is about to change because of Annabelle and her past. It's up to Zacharel to find out why Demons are tracking Annabelle...and also find out what happened to Annabelle and why she can see the demons...etc.
I won't go any further...because this book has so much going on, I don't want to spoil anything.
My thoughts on "Wicked Nights" of course is that it's a great start to a new series. In fact it's a great start to a spin-off series of Lords of the Underworld. =) I was so excited to find out that Gena was doing a spin off...especially when it includes Angels. (I'm a sucker for a sexy male Angel)
I fell in love with the stubborn, tough, sexy Zacharel in the LOTU Series. To be able to find out what makes Zacharel tick...I was definitely onboard to read his book. Now, after reading it, I'm looking forward to the next books. It definitely keeps me sane waiting for the next LOTU book and you'll see why when you read "Wicked Nights". Oh yes...Gena throws in surprises. I was so giddy reading this book, my hubby was about to send me to the doctor to get checked out.
I fell in love Annabelle because she's a strong-willed female character who can take care of herself. I don't know how many times she stood up to Zacharel. (because I lost count)
I loved the storyline that Gena Showalter created in "Wicked Nights". She of course threw in extra stuff to prepare you for the next book or books. You'll get to read about the other Angels too in "Wicked Nights". I don't know if Koldo or Thane is my fave yet, after Zacharel. I'll have to wait and read their books.
I'm going to admit again, how addicted I am to Gena's writing style. She's one of my FAVE Authors and with this spin-off series...she didn't disappoint at all. I will find myself re-reading this book because I still can't believe what happened and who ended up being the bad guy in this book. Plus...other reasons I will not discuss on why I want to re-read it.
If you haven't read any of Gena Showalter's books, what are you waiting for?
If your thinking about reading this book, but haven't read the LOTU Series, I recommend you read that series first. You will thank me later. =)
I recommend this book to ALL Paranormal Romance Readers out there, and of course die hard Gena Showalter Fans. If you've read Kresley Cole's IAD Series, you'll love the LOTU and "Wicked Nights" by Gena Showalter.
Now what are you waiting for buy yourself a copy of "Wicked Nights" and get to reading...
This Book Lovin' Mama is counting down to Gena Showalter's next book...patiently.........(trying to at least) =)

My Review:
Ladies and Gents...I've finally finished "The Darkest Seduction" and I can officially say this by far is my FAVE book in the series now. Eeek!!
This book had so much in it...that I kept notes in my journal that way I can remember when the next LOTU comes out. Yes...I have a horrible memory sometimes. It comes with getting older.
Here's what happens in The Darkest Seduction. I promise now, I will not spoil this book for anyone. Just want to give a little run down on what is expected in the 9th book to the Lord of the Underworld Series.
Paris is still searching for Sienna. Sienna is still with Cronus (The Titan God). She's trapped in a castle in the Realm of Blood and Shadows. Cronus wants her to do something for him on the Earth plane. If your not new to the series, you know that Sienna is possessed with the demon Wrath who used to be inside Aeron. Wrath is not a demon to mess with. He keeps trying to take control over Sienna, but she keeps fighting him. She's not used to having a demon in her and she's definitely not used to having wings. Here's the catch about Sienna though no one else can see her except for some people, for example, Paris. Sienna was killed a few books back.
Paris is determined to find Sienna and he ends up doing things, he's ashamed of to get to where Sienna is. He ends up asking Viola to help him who is possessed with the Demon, Narcissism. Who by the way, is very friggin' annoying. It's to be expected though since her Demon makes her only talk about herself and devote on herself.
When Paris does find Sienna, he has William and Zacharel's help to get to her...well kind of their help. Zacharel has a mission of his own. (He's a Angel who was sent by Lysander to protect Sienna and sometimes Paris). William, I found out from the previous book, "The Darkest Surrender", has a HUGE secret. Oh boy...he ends up having a MAJOR secret in this book too. Damn him!!! He's making me love him even more.
Sienna has always thought that Paris hates her for what she did to him.
Of course, Paris tries everything to push her away once he finds her and saves her....unfortunately...of course who could resist Paris though.
Then there's Kane who is still trapped in Hell. He's getting his ass handed to him. There's also Zacharel and his mission (loved being in his head...even if it's for a little while).
Got a taste of Cronus and what he's up to. (Hate him by the way)
Then there's the evil, Galen (who I ended up liking in this book). Although, he did something that made me mad, but he made up for it in the end.
There's lots going in this book, that I can't say because I'll give away the best parts of the book. Let's just say, Gena knows how to keep me turning the page. Gosh darn her...because I sleep depraved myself reading this book. I loved it that much. It definitely had twists and turns I wasn't expecting. I fell in love with more characters.
Oh...and Sienna is ONE KICK ASS Female Character who I ADORE more than Anya now. Pay attention to her. You will be surprised on what happens to her. It's just GREAT...or should I say POWERFUL.
My thoughts...I friggin' LOVED this book. It's a page turner from beginning to end. Seriously, how does Gena come up with this stuff. There was not a single flaw in this story. Well..except for what Galen did, but I'll leave that alone because he made up for it.
Oh...Maddox and Ashlyn play a very important role in this book. If you've read their book, you know what I'm talking about. =) It's about time, that's all I can say.
I'm so glad that Paris finally got his book. I think all of us readers, were waiting patiently for his. I know I was waiting patiently. (Patiently meaning...biting my nails and pulling my hair).

Now I can wait patiently again for the next LOTU book. Well...at least try to wait patiently.
At least Gena has other books coming out to keep me occupied. =)

My Review:
I'm a huge fan of Gena Showalter and her amazing books. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to read "The Darkest Surrender" until now. I've had the book taunting me for awhile now. It glared at me from my bookshelf in my bedroom...whispering me to read it already. When I bought it back last September, I was 8 months pregnant with my youngest so sometimes things slipped my mind due to being uncomfortable and having a baby kick my ribs every 5 minutes. Definitely, do not miss being pregnant.
Now...I'm glad I spent this past weekend, sleep depriving myself to read "The Darkest Surrender". My youngest even let me read it without trying to eat my book which she seems is fun to do lately.
Gena never disappoints at all when it comes to the Lords of the Underworld. I love ALL of these sexy Demons.
"The Darkest Surrender" is the 8th installment to the LOTU and it's about Strider (Demon of Defeat) and Kaia (Harpy).
Strider is one demon I wanted to find out who he hooked up with and I kind of knew who he would end up with...but of course Gena could've changed it. I know how Authors like to throw their readers off sometimes, but thank goodness she didn't with Strider because Kaia is perfect for him.
Kaia is one strong-willed, determined, kick ass, scary, pain-in-the-ass, doesn't like to listen, stealing Harpy who I adore.
Strider is one stubborn-headed, also pain-in-the-ass, protective, sarcastic, sexy demon who I friggin' LOVE!!!!! (Can I have him?)
Kaia has had a hard life though. She did something when she was younger that makes all the other Harpies hate her. She caused something to happen which slaughtered a whole bunch of harpies. Once her mother of course finds out she is disappointed in her and gives her the name Kaia the Disappointment. Kaia ever since has never been invited to the Harpy Games until now. Now her sisters and herself are having to attend...but not underneath their mother's name. They're force to pick another name. Kaia wants to prove to herself and everyone that she can win.
Strider is to be Kaia's consort to the harpy games once he finds out about her going. He has mixed feelings over Kaia. He doesn't really want to get close to her because he's not looking for something at the moment. He just got over Haidee from the previous book. Well...Kaia makes it difficult for him when he is her consort.
I won't go any further because this book has so much to it, I'll probably end up giving away too much.
My thoughts on "The Darkest Surrender" is I really enjoyed finally reading Strider's story. He can be a jerk at times, but in this book there was a different side to him. Can I just say, I'm jealous of Kaia...really she gets him ALL to herself.
Here's something I enjoyed the most in this book is how Strider took care of Kaia every time he was hurt. He was very protective of her even though he tried to push her away. I even enjoyed the steamy scenes between Kaia and Strider. She's one lucky gal!
I hated Juliette in the story. GRRR!! You evil wench! You'll have to read the book to find out who she is. Let's just say I would've ripped her wings off if I could for Kaia.
I loved the side stories in "The Darkest Surrender". I got a taste of Kane, Paris, and William. Oh boy...there was a serious secret that came out about William. HOLY MOLY!
Actually, William had several secrets come out in this book and now I understand why he is the way he is.
I think I love him even more now. No..I know I LOVE him even more!
Like I stated before, Gena never disappoints. I love what she does with her books. She leaves you guessing in the book while your reading and of course the endings usually leave you hanging for more. I found myself drooling while reading, having the shocked look to my face, and punching my book so I could get the bad guys for the Lords of the Underworld.
Her books are seriously addicting and I'll find myself re-reading these books whenever I find myself in a reading slump because only the Lords of the Underworld can help me out of that slump. *sigh...sexy ass demons*
I recommend this to paranormal romance readers, demon lovers, and LOTU fanatics out there.
If you haven't read this series, you need to start. Add it to your wish list, your TBR on goodreads, or go ahead and buy it. The first book is "The Darkest Night" or you can start with the prequel, "The Darkest Fire".

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
This review is a little different...I'm not going to go over the story, but what I loved about the book the most.
Everyone has their own opinion on angels and demons. Some people didn't like this novel due to how Stephanie Chong betrayed the world of Angels and Demons. Me, personally...from the first page to the last page of this novel....I was BEYOND interested. I had a hard time putting down this book. I finished this book at 1 am in the morning. I was determined to find out what happened next and what would happen to the characters. I wanted a happy ending already.
First and foremost...I have to say this...this book has become my FAVE of 2011. It may of surpassed "The Mummy" by Anne Rice which is my ALL time favorite book I've ever read. I will say this...the series will probably becomes my FAVE once the 2nd book comes out.
Stephanie Chong has a LIFETIME Fan now. I love her writing style. I loved the characters in this book. I especially think that Julian may have become my #1 Sexy Male Character who I wouldn't mind knowing in REAL Life. I will say this he can kind of compare to my hubby when it comes to certain things. I will give you a hint...I loved how Julian made sure to take care of Serena's needs before his own...Now that reminds me of my Hubby. =)
I loved the trials that characters went through in this book too. Serena had no idea what she was in for when she met Julian the first time in his club. Julian had no idea a Angel would change his world after 200 years wreaking havoc.
My favorite part in this book though would have to be the sex scenes. Yummy, sexy, heated sex scenes between a Demon and Angel. What more could you ask for? Throw in how much they love each other...and you got yourself a Good vs. Evil that end up being a TRUE LOVE story that no one can stop from happening, not even the characters can stop from loving each other.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves Paranormal Romance and loves Angels and Demons as much as I do. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I really hope the Villains in this book get a book too. I would love for Corbin to change into something GOOD also. I know he has a soft heart somewhere in there.
**I will be buying this book eventually and adding to my collection at home." =)

(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
Let me just say this...I'm really upset to hear that
this is the last book in the Demonica Series. I loved reading about
Demons. My Demon fix though will be put to a halt now. I guess I'll
have to re-read the series eventually if I want my fix again, which I definitely don't mind.
On
to the Review though...Larissa Ione couldn't of picked the best two to
finish out the series...Sin and Conall are perfect together. Sin who is
been through so much since she was born and Conall who is been through a
lot in his lifetime as well.
Sin
unfortunately creates a virus that is killing off ALL the turned
werewolves. Conall has to find away to stop it and stop her. He falls
in love with her though. He actually messed with Sin in the previous
book though so I got a feel on how Sin and Conall got together. Sin has
a lot on her shoulders in this book. Not only do the werewolves want
to stop the virus that she is spreading and kill her...but her assassins
that she has working for her want her dead too because they want to
take over. Geez...poor Sin!! Conall will stop at nothing to find out
how to stop the virus and also be with Sin. Sin keeps pushing him away
though. I was surprised at the ending. I couldn't put this book down
when I was reading it. Thank you, Larissa for making a PERFECT book for
the ending to the Series. I'm sad the series is over...but I'm looking
forward to your next series that you are writing about. Looks like the
Demonica series will be another series I will read over and over again.
=) I can't wait to read the New Series..which will happen soon. Thank you again Larissa Ione for my Demon fix. I
loved all these Demons!

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
Let me just say Idess is an
amazing character in this story. I've always been fascinated with
Angels and although Idess may not be fully Angel, yet...she definitely
has the best attributes on becoming the PERFECT Angel. Lore may not be a
perfect match for her at first, but he grows into this different person
towards the end. It's triangle in this book though since the way Lore
meets Idess, is darn good one. The man he has to kill is actually the
man she has to keep alive and to top it off, Lore doesn't understand
that he can't kill the person he's supposed to kill because only a Angel
can. Then it turns out Idess has to keep an eye on Lore too. It's
just a mess that turns out to be for the best.
Let
me just say this...I didn't want to put this book down...Once it
started getting juicy, I just couldn't pry my fingers away from the
book. Larissa Ione, I don't know how you do it...but your Series is becoming even more addictive. =)

My thoughts of why I loved this book and why I had a
hard time putting it down...let's just say, I will forever love Larissa
Ione's writing style. She reminds me of Gena Showalter and J.R. Ward.
Where she'll go back and forth to each character and even throw in
other characters in the mix. She'll throw in a another twist in the
story and also throw in the characters she'll be writing about in her
next book. She gets you prepared for the next book, which is GREAT.
What
I loved most of this book, was the character Serena and how she was
always tempted to be with Wraith, but she always had the willpower to
stop herself. Wraith turned into another person in this book and you
found out the softer side to him. Seminum demons will do anything to be
with the women they love and he proved it in this book. What he did to
Serena was awful, but he made up for it at the end. I fell in love
with both these characters. They definitely were meant to be with each
other. Serena a beautiful charmed woman and Wraith a evil vampire who
did everything to get into trouble met his match when he met Serena. I
loved the ending too because their was a twist for Wraith at the end and
he had to grow up even more and I was proud of his decision. I was
even surprised of Serena and how she accepted Wraith and his past.
Thank you, Larissa Ione for feeding me my Demon Addiction now. =)

Let me just say, Larissa Ione, I love your Demonica Series...it reminds
me so much of the LOTW Series and Alien Huntress Series by Gena
Showalter. I've had the Demonica Series books for awhile, but just got a
chance to read them. What did I think about the second book in the
series? I loved it and that' s all that matters. I definitely would
re-read this book again. Hopefully in the future I will be able to once
I'm done reading the other books I have stacked up on my bookshelves in
my room and all the books in my Kindle I've ordered. I really enjoyed
reading about Shade and Runa. This book had a twist in it though about
the Seminus Demon Brother that Shade thought he had lost. You never
expected the ending to this book. I give this book 5 full moons and two
thumbs up.

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm" in 2010)
This series reminds me of the Alien Huntress Series by Gena Showalter a
little bit. It has the same kind of world in it like the aliens that
Gena writes about, but Larissa is writing about demons instead. The
Demonica Series has bad and good demons and also has slayers that kill
the demons.
Of course you have the demon in the story who falls in
love, but he ends up falling in love with a slayer. Eidolon is a doctor
at UG Hospital and he happens to come across Tayla because she gets
injured in one of her fights with a demon and is almost on the verge of
death, but Eidolon saves her. He doesn't know why in the beginning, but
for some reason he is drawn to her. Tayla of course has something
strange about her, that Eidolon finds out.
I love the characters in the
story. Tayla is tough and determined to stay the path she's on because
all she's known is The Aegis. Eidolon is determined to not make "The
Change" that his demon species makes after their 1000 year mark.
Eidolon is a sweetheart in this book. I wouldn't mind having him as my
doctor. Tayla is definitely well taken care of in the book and I'm kind
of jealous of her. It did take me awhile to finish this book, but not
because I wasn't interested. I was just too busy to pick up my book,
which of course had me irritated. I love reading on my downtime, but it
seems on my downtime I rather sleep right now. Work has been crazy the
last couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to September when I have
some vacation time again and I'm there for my daughter when she goes to
school. I definitely love Larissa Ione's Demonica Series and I'm
looking forward to reading the next book. Larissa Ione has become a
author I will follow for awhile. Her books are addictive so far and I
definitely categorized her with Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole. =)

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed back on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
It's time to review Gena Showalter's latest Yummy Lord Story, which is about Gideon, Demon of Lies, hence the title, "The Darkest Lie". It's also about Scarlet, who has the Demon Nightmares in her. From the very beginning of the book to the very end both characters are trying to figure out why they have a connection to each other. They are also dealing with family and friends issues. Scarlet is dealing with a Mother who has hated her since she started developing. Gideon has his Lord friends wanting to know why he is so interested in the prisoner, Scarlet. It's a love story with a twist too. If you don't understand Gideon's language, you'll probably fall apart from the beginning of the book.
It took me awhile to finish this book because I had prior things I was taking care of, but when I finally got the chance to really sit down and read it, of course I had a hard time putting it down. I like Scarlet's character in the story. She is surely put through hell in the book and I felt really terrible for her and then she is re-united with Gideon and he is all for helping her out and finding out what happened to his memories.
I also get a sneak into Amun's and Strider's stories which are the next two books to come out next spring. Oh, yes! I can't wait for Amun's story.
I'm so glad I started reading this series back in 2009. Thanks Gena Showalter, for giving me double douse of Lords this Spring/Summer. I truly needed that. It made some parts of my summer even better. =)

Review - "The Demon Lover" by Juliet Dark
The Demon Lover
(Fairwick Chronicles #1)
by: Juliet Dark
Publishing Date: 12/27/11
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group
Source: Netgalley
Genre: Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy
Buy: Amazon or Barnes and Noble
Description:
Since
accepting a teaching position at remote Fairwick College in upstate
New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly erotic
dream every night: A mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a
virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her in the most
toe-curling, wholly satisfying ways possible. Perhaps these dreams are
the result of writing her bestselling book, The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers.
After all, Callie’s lifelong passion is the intersection of lurid
fairy tales and Gothic literature—which is why she finds herself at
Fairwick’s renowned folklore department, living in a once-stately
Victorian house that, at first sight, seemed to call her name.
But Callie soon realizes that her dreams are alarmingly real. She has a demon lover—an incubus—and he will seduce her, pleasure her, and eventually suck the very life from her. Then Callie makes another startling discovery: He’s not the only mythical creature in Fairwick. As the tenured witches of the college and the resident fairies in the surrounding woods prepare to cast out the incubus, Callie must accomplish something infinitely more difficult—banishing this demon lover from her heart.

My Review:
Did you ever buy a book because the cover captured your attention?
Well...this book definitely captured mine when I saw it in Netgalley. I didn't even bother to read the description to find out what the book was about before I requested it. I usually don't ever do that, but for some reason I did with this one. The cover just drew me in. I have a weakness of beautiful book covers. Oh...I have a obsession with the color blue...which didn't help either.
I tend to describe the book in my words in the beginning, but found that is a waste of time sometimes...so instead I'm going to type up what I loved and disliked about the book.
Once I started reading "The Demon Lover", I a hard time reading it at first. The first few chapters just wasn't capturing my attention like all other books I've read and you would think it would with how Juliet Dark threw in a love scene in the very beginning. I very sexy, seductive Man who creeps into my dreams...why wouldn't I love this book? I had to put this book down several times and come back to read it. I thought if I put it down...the book would miraculously capture my heart like other books have...Unfortunately, the book didn't capture my attention until the very end. I was determined to finish this book though. I hate starting a book and not being able to finish it. It's a big pet peeve of mine.
The Author tended to describe certain things in detail for too long...and I lost interest. Once she started writing about dilemmas for the character Callie...then the book caught my interest again. Although, it was back and worth getting my attention which I hate. Ugh!
I adored Callie in the book. Her intelligence and her determination, made me realize her character reminded me of myself. Although, there were points in the story where I could've slapped Callie silly. Wake up, girl...something is seriously wrong with Fairwick and what is happening to you.
I can't stand a book that is predictable...which "The Demon Lover" was to me. It may not be for other readers, but for some reason I was able to pick out what was happening and not get the "Awe" feeling. I knew what was going on with Callie.
Callie's dreams in the beginning is what spiked my love for the book. Once I found out who and what was going into her dreams, I felt I had to read the book even more and not put it down anymore. I love reading books about Incubus's. Callie's love life really was rough at first since she lived far away from her boyfriend, Paul...maybe the Incubus was doing her a favor. I think my favorite character would have to be the Incubus in the story. He was the main plot to the book...but Juliet did throw in other stuff, that maybe shouldn't of been added.
I always love trying out new authors who I have never read from. Juliet Dark created a very Gothic supernatural world. I did feel like I was actually in the book sometimes with the dark, supernatural way she wrote. Her writing style is definitely different to what I'm used to, but it's not a horrible thing. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I just hope the next book I won't have to put down. Maybe I should shut myself away from the world when I read the next book...unfortunately that won't happen when I'm a mother of two girls who hate seeing me with a book in front of my face. They want to know what I'm reading, but unfortunately their not even close to the age, where they need to read the books I read. =)
I recommend this book for anyone who loves Gothic style Romance. You'll find yourself in a world where your not used to...if you think this book is any style compared to Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, etc.
Juliet Dark, has her own writing style. =)

My Review:
(Originally Reviewed on Mrs. Papillion aka "The Book Worm")
I finished reading back in June of 2010, "The Darkest Passion" by Gena Showalter, one of my fave authors who I've been reading since last 2009. A friend got me hooked into her books and believe me I'm HOOKED for good. I'm reading not only her Lords of the Underworld series, but I love her Alien Huntress Series too.
This book was one that had me BAWLING.
It was about Aeron, his Demon, Wrath and a Fallen Angel, Olivia. Olivia is now my 2nd favorite female in the series. Anya will always be my first favorite.
Aeron is the Keeper of Wrath and all he wants to do is help his friend Paris in the beginning of the book. Olivia has been watching Aeron for awhile now and Aeron knows someone has been watching him. Olivia was assigned to kill Aeron, but she's not able to, so instead she chooses a different destiny for herself. She wants to know Aeron up close and personal. She doesn't know yet, but she has strong feelings for him. Aeron does everything to ignore her. He just wants to live his life, help his friends, and destroy Galen and the Hunters. This book also steps into Gideon's life a bit and also Strider's. It's preparing us for the next books. Yes!!! Thank you, Gena for doing that. =) I also learned about Legion more in this book and how much I despise the little girl demon. Well, I thought she was a girl demon, but it seems the book takes a twist. I also didn't expect something in this book that shocked me, but I think I know where Gena is going with it. =)
I give this book 5 stars and two thumbs up. =) I love Gena's writing style. I love how she prepares for her next books in the series. I also love how she works up to the ending of each book. The characters are amazing. Again, my fave female character so far in the series will be Anya and my fave male is actually now Aeron and Lucien is second. =)
Thank you again, Gena Showalter, for keeping me on the edge of my sit with this book. I love the LOTW SERIES!!!
